Psychologist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker

As a member of the Mental Health Service, the Full Time Staff Psychologist or Social Worker provides direct clinical services, including crisis intervention, diagnostic assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, triage assessment and outreach, to a diverse population of Columbia University Medical Center students

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or LCSW is required. Candidates will possess licensure or be license-eligible in the state of New York

A minimum of three years psychotherapy experience is required. Preference will be given to those with university counseling center experience

Computer literacy required, including word processing, familiarity with electronic scheduling systems or electronic medical records highly desirable

Evidence of experience working with severely troubled patients and/or on a psychiatric inpatient unit, or the functional equivalent, is required

Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention, assessing need for psychiatric hospitalization, handling psychiatric emergencies, and supervising referral for inpatient care is required

Demonstrated excellence in diagnosis, including mastery of diagnostic nomenclature, and in understanding best practices in diagnostic evaluations and time-limited psychotherapy is required

Demonstrated excellence in multicultural competency

Essential Functions

Evaluation, diagnosis, brief treatment, consultation, crisis intervention and referral of students in the support of academic success and retention

Provision of crisis intervention in urgent situations

Provision of triage evaluation via telephone contact with students who request Mental Health Service appointments

Provision of care in an interpersonally and culturally sensitive manner

Documentation of care as prescribed by law and in accordance with best practices

Outreach and education to students and the greater campus community

Maintenance of quality assurance and improvement activities

Participation in After Hours on-call rotation including weeknights, weekends and holidays

Participation in academic inquiry and research according to identified interests and MHS clinical issues

Committee participation and leadership as well as participation in team meetings

Clinical coordination and collaborative work with Primary Care Medical Services

Performance of a variety of other job related responsibilities as requested
