Project Manager (Real Estate and Facility Operations)

Position Overview

Under the direction of the VP Real Estate & Facility Operations, the Project Manager ensures effective coordination of projects primarily but not limited to design, construction, facility planning, space management, facility asset management and facility condition assessment. Works closely with project teams involving staff of the UMPhysicians, University of Minnesota Academic Health Center and Fairview Health Services to ensure that project activities and communications are on track and focused.

Department Overview

UMPhysicians Real Estate & Facility Operations is responsible for approximately 500,000 GSF of leased clinical and administrative office space including a 350,000 GSF outpatient ambulatory clinic and surgery center as well as numerous community based clinics.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates various aspects of the project and monitors all activities and performs requirements definition, pre-project planning, project initiations and all aspects of project implementation.
  • Performs required pre-project planning, project initiation, project implementation and close out.
  • Serves as subject matter expert and content manager for project closeout processes, documentation and record keeping and retention.
  • Assists in guiding the project teams through the implementation and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Communicates along with VP Real Estate & Facility Operations a common vision, plan and goals to prevent inconsistent project management and prevent confusion across teams.
  • Works with corporate communications from Fairview and UMPhysicians and assists with the development and delivery of project communication plan.
  • Develops and updates detailed project plans in conjunction with VP Real Estate & Facility Operations and consultants.
  • Assists leadership with the benefit realization model and the identification of quality, service and financial benefits.
  • Develops and implements project requests for proposals for competitive bidding.

The minimum qualifications for this role are:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent directly related experience, education and training.
  • 2+ years of experience in project coordination or management and/or program development
  • Knowledge of healthcare organizations. Project management methodology skills. Excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills and written/verbal communication skills. Professional and at ease dealing with high level officials. Proficient with setting up and managing budgets and tracking expenses in excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment and work successfully in both a team and independent setting. Must be flexible with time to participate in various meetings and schedules.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Construction management or project management degree or certifications
  • 3+ years post college experience in construction project management
  • Project management experience working in healthcare settings. Demonstrated project leadership experience.
  • Experience with autocad/revit
  • Experience with MicroSoft Project
  • Experience with BlueBeam or similar web based project management tools.
