Project Manager

A Project Manager, manages heavy civil projects from inception to completion to achieve overall company objectives to maximize operation results and insure profitability, while developing new business opportunities relative to existing clients, covered geographical areas, and type of project expertise.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Knows, follows and enforces all company and client safety rules and company policies and procedures.
      • Manages all phases of construction projects, project team personnel and staffing requirements for each phase.
      • Reviews, understands, and implements construction project documents such as contracts, plans, specifications, drawings, job layout, as-builts and quantity books sufficient to perform the responsibilities of this position.
      • Initiates and maintains liaisons with owners, engineers, architects, subcontractors, vendors, government officials, neighboring property owners, neighboring property users and COP personnel to facilitate project activities, positive relationships, and communication; to be responsive to their needs; and to promote teamwork.
      • Develop and implement a marketing plan for future work with new and existing clients.
      • Generate revenue growth by successfully obtaining new work and sustaining existing work.
      • Attends and participates in all pre-construction meetings with appropriate individuals (project team, subcontractors, architects, engineers, owners, government officials).
      • Working in conjunction with the Estimating Department sets up control budget and cost codes; prepares subcontracts and purchase agreements; and, prepares and executes purchase orders for major and special permanent materials. Assumes overall responsibility for determining materials needed; determining material availability; purchasing materials; scheduling materials; and handling and storage of materials.
      • Working in conjunction with the Contract Administrator insures contractual insurance and indemnification requirements are met.
      • Working in conjunction with the Safety Department develops staging plans and a jobsite safety plan; and, assumes overall responsibility for safety on the job site including but not limited to safety issues, safety equipment, safety precautions, safety programs, and compliance with OSHA.
      • Working in conjunction with the Small Tools Manager, assumes overall responsibility for purchase of/requisition for small tools and consumables; and, scheduling, obtaining, receiving, and accounting for purchases.
      • Working in conjunction with the Human Resource Department, plans, organizes, and staffs key field positions. Assumes overall responsibility for field personnel including but not limited to personnel selection, training, and development; compliance with labor agreements and employment requirements; compliance with EEO requirements; personnel scheduling; personnel assignment; personnel hiring; personnel discipline and personnel termination.
      • Working in conjunction with the Equipment Department, assumes overall responsibility for equipment selection, equipment scheduling, and scheduling of job site equipment servicing and maintenance.
      • Plans, implements, and directs all project engineering (obtaining required permits; transmittals; submittals; shop drawings; layout; surveying; cofferdams, work bridges, form work design, etc.; Maintains project records such as as-builts, quantity books; and job site pictures, cost records), material control, and document control activities.
      • Assumes overall responsibility for subcontractors on the job site including but not limited to making sure all pre-work requirements met (i.e. subcontractor insurance and bond compliance); determining subcontractor needs, availability and scheduling; insure; scheduling and coordinating subcontractors; and, generating subcontract pay estimates.
      • Maintain and keep current all construction documents (change orders, purchase orders, RFI’s, submittals, project pay estimates, time cards and time record keeping, etc.), making sure to timely document things in writing in order to ensure an accurate written record of the project’s progress and compliance with all contract and subcontract requirements.
      • Oversees project close out: performs project walk through with owner, architect, engineer and project superintendent.

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or 10 years of supervisory experience. Must have direct experience and knowledge of heavy civil construction.
      • Proficiency in the use of PC with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.), and ability to learn to new software applications.
      • Must be able to read and understand blue prints, construction contracts, subcontracts and other construction documents, plans and specifications.
      • Ability to initiate and maintain business relationships-including working effectively with owners, engineers, co-workers, subcontractors and suppliers.
      • Must be able to travel to areas of remote construction project location when required.
      • Must have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle history record that meet company insurance requirements.
