Project Engineer III

The Project Engineer III performs component sizing, specifies and selects appropriate equipment, generates bills of material, coordinates material acquisition, reviews and approves drawings, and manages the fabrication and assembly schedule for standard and custom packaged equipment. Project Engineer III is a position that requires a committed individual who is capable of receiving and processing information from a variety of sources, from which decisions critical to the success of the company are made. A wide degree of creativity and latitude for appropriate decision making is expected of the Project Engineer III. The Project Engineer III must rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate the design of standard and customer specified packages.
  • Size appropriate piping, valves, and other components as needed for packages.
  • Size pulsation vessels and perform design calculations in compliance with ASME code.
  • Solicit bids from suppliers for appropriate components, end devices, and control panels used on packages.
  • Select appropriate equipment, including specification of proper materials, for use on packages.
  • Develop, review, revise, and approve process and instrumentation diagrams, fabrication drawings, electrical diagrams, and general assembly drawings for use on packages.
  • Develop detailed bills of material for complete package and related systems and generate routings.
  • Verify that packages are designed in compliance with company standards and sound engineering practice.
  • Specify and coordinate appropriate outsourced technical studies on torsion, vibration, pulsation, and construction to make certain that packages are properly engineered while also containing costs.
  • Monitor and maintain expenditures within limitations of project budget.
  • Monitor and maintain project schedule, participate in Production Meetings to communicate status.
  • Determine, detail, implement and manage necessary changes to materials, components, and schedules, when modifications to standard units are necessary to meet fleet or customer requirements.
  • Prepare for, coordinate, and conduct internal and customer kick-off meetings as needed.
  • Maintain thorough and well organized documentation of project history, decisions, and responsibilities.
  • Review final project cost and generate analysis
  • Conduct on floor inspections for quality and compliance review of fabricated and assembled equipment.
  • Initiate invoicing as appropriate for progressive payments on sold equipment.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with Designer, Shop Supervisors, and other co-workers to accomplish various job assignments
  • Coordinate with Data Book Administrator to generate Unit Book when required. Review and approve final Unit Book.
  • Provide assistance to field services and customers on start-up and warranty issues as required.
  • Abide by all company guidelines, policies, and procedures, including health, safety, and environmental.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required. Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree is preferred.

RIENCE
:

  • 10 years experience in separable natural gas compressor or pump business or related industry, 4 years specifically dealing with separable pump packages is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer registration in the state of Texas is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the selection and application of natural gas compressors/pump packages.
  • Thorough understanding of the mechanical aspects of natural gas compressors/pump packages.
  • Thorough understanding of industry codes. (API-610, API-614, API 11-P, NACE MR-01-75, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of piping codes and pressure vessel codes (ANSI B31.3 & B31.8, and ASME Section VIII & IX, etc.) and piping and pressure vessel sizing criteria as related to this industry.
  • Thorough understanding of industrial drafting standards and symbols.
  • Thorough understanding of process, instrumentation, and wiring diagrams.
  • Thorough understanding of skid, vessel, and pipe fabrication drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of natural gas and diesel engine, electric motor, and compressor control systems.
  • Thorough understanding of layout, construction, and installation design requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of sizing and selection of package materials and components.
  • Experienced in evaluation of customer specifications with ability and desire to effectively communicate directly with customers.
  • Experienced in cost review/control, budgeting, and other financial considerations.
  • Must be able to represent CSI professionally in industry organizations.
  • Must have strong computer skills, and ability to effectively operate all required programs and systems.
  • Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to function as a strong team player.
  • Must have ability to lead the work of a Designer in successful progress on assigned projects
  • Must have and maintain a working knowledge of component specifications and competitive products.
  • Must have a desire to continually grow, be willing to continually learn, and seek out training opportunities.
  • Must be dependable, highly motivated, and self directed; able to work effectively with little supervision.
  • Must be process oriented, able to prioritize, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able and willing to work hours beyond the standard work week schedule when needed.
  • Must be able and willing to travel when and as required, and to handle an appropriate expense account.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English. Ability to analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, technical study recommendations, manufacturer’s literature, and customer and company specifications. Ability to respond effectively and professionally to inquiries or complaints from customers and co-workers. Ability to effectively and professionally present information to customers and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and multi-variable equations. Ability to apply the trigonometric, geometric, and higher mathematical concepts utilized in engineering disciplines.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The noise level in the primary work environment is usually quiet, but the employee is required on an occasional basis to work in production areas where noise levels are usually loud. The primary work area is climate controlled, but the employee is exposed to all ambient conditions when moving from one building to another. Production areas are not climate controlled and temperatures range from cold to hot. The employee is occasionally required to work in the production areas where they will be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is required to wear appropriate personnel protective equipment when working in production areas.
