Project Engineer

This position is responsible for independently performing testingand evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian andother International product safety standards including but not limited toPhotovoltaics and Energy Industry Standards, UL, EN and IEC – with emphasis onPhotovoltaics (IEC 61730, UL 1703, UL 2703, UL 1741 etc.) ; writing reports; and communicating with clients.

Independently conduct on and off site evaluation of products todetermine compliance with applicable standard(s). To do this, Project Engineermust:

  • Readand determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT(equipment under test);

  • Readand understand schematics and manufacturing instructions;

  • Validatethe project scope and sample applicability;

  • Underscope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipmentrequired for testing;

  • Followestablished test plan;

  • Setup and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed;

  • Conductthorough construction review; document results;

  • Performtesting of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but arenot limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure,stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain,radiation, sound, and laser.

  • Mentorless senior technical personnel.

  • Supplyinformation for quotes such as length of project, site needed, rentalequipment, samples, and standards that will be used.

  • Completepreliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.

  • Providemore specialized "expertise" in one product category, i.e., becomereviewer, resident expert, or obtain and maintain advanced product knowledge.

  • Developand set up test plans.

  • Performfield labeling jobs.

  • Setup and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to: spectrumanalyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, groundcontinuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmentalcondition chamber, and articulated probes. Use hand tools to build/calibratetest fixtures.

  • Followsample handling procedures, ensuring that sample is logged in and out of thesystem. Move equipment as needed through the facility. Properly package samplefor shipment.

  • Providesales support such as attending client visits.

  • Communicateproject status and test results to client, sales personnel, and managementthroughout testing. Provide on-going support to clients as needed.

  • Withinpolicy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineeringjudgments.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’sdegree in engineering

  • 2-4years directly related experience; prefer prior project management experience,or a Master’s degree in Engineering

  • Demonstratedexperience with U.S., Canadian, and other International product safetystandards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC is preferred.

  • Demonstratedexperience in certification or design of renewables products.

  • Abilityto define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Abilityto interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical ordiagram form

  • Abilityto deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Abilityto make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently withinestablished parameters

  • Excellentcommunication skills, in both verbal and written formats

  • Excellentorganization and time management skills

  • Excellentinterpersonal skills

  • Mustbe self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-taskingenvironment
