Project Engineer

The position responsibilities include planning, implementing and supporting the FAA Repair Station activities. It also requires knowledge of engineering principles, theories and industry practices to provide support for FAA FAR component repair solutions, develop DER repairs, and have involvement with multiple aspects of the FAA FAR-145 component repair process. All duties will be performed in a fast-paced and flexible environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates and resolves technical feasibility and production issues.
  • Plans and implements engineering programs, including defining the project philosophies, activities, milestones, and customer requirements.
  • Must have a strong blend of technical, project & positive customer relationship building experience.
  • Requires exceptional written, verbal & interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated strong use of analytical skills, including FEA.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering project.
  • Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Prepares interim and completion project reports.
  • Developing designs and substantiation packages for FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval applications and / or DER Approved Repairs
  • Assisting in the development of manufacturing processes
  • Coordinating first article or conformity inspection activities between the company’s Quality Assurance department, Purchasing and management
  • Develop vendor substantiation requirements for outside manufacturing vendors
  • Support activities related to new vendor qualification including new vendor identification and selection
  • Support QA department and vendors questions about drawing interpretation, manufacturing methods, inspection methods, etc.
  • Participating in the disposition of non-conforming materials, including analyzing the nonconformance for fit, function, safety, and reliability, and communicating with QA and Suppliers as required
  • Completing Engineering Changes with supporting substantiation as required
  • Advise more junior engineers on designs, methods, regulations and procedures
  • Should be considered as an expert in taking FAA-PMA programs from concept to manufacturing
  • Shall provide technical support on FAA-PMA programs, guidance and direction to issues arising from matters related to engineering, manufacturing, production and quality assurance
  • Coordinate FAA activities
  • Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met
  • Develops and maintains a schedule for the assigned engineering project
  • Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents.

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher from four-year college and/or university or the equivalent of 8 – 10 years of experience in engineering field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires at least 3 years in a regulated industry, such as aerospace and defense, with knowledge of FAA certification preferred
  • Prefer knowledge and use of Six Sigma tools
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to design work flows and procedures
  • Extensive experience with developing project plans, coordinating projects, communicating changes and progress, completing projects on time and budget, managing project team activities
  • Advanced written and oral communications skills
  • Advanced level of proficiency in AutoCad Inventor or similar systems, MathCAD, MS Project, MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with mechanical drafting, GD&T, inspection methods and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of aircraft engine components, controls & accessories
  • Knowledge of measurement practices and tools
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials and coatings for both Metallic and Non-Metallic
  • Knowledge of reverse engineering aircraft components
  • Knowledge of conventional aerospace manufacturing methods, including; milling, turning, grinding, lapping, stamping, forging, casting, molding, EDM, ECM, welding, brazing, heat treating
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience with synthesizing complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs work flows and procedures
  • Experience in identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Experience in developing project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget
