PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

RESPEC, a nationally recognized engineering and information technology consulting and services company, is headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, with 21 offices in 14 states as well as one international office in Canada. Over the past several years, the company has continued to increase revenues and customer base across technical disciplines and geography. Our project portfolio spans federal, state, local, and commercial customers. With this growth, RESPEC is adding a Project Accountant to its team. In addition to the daily primary responsibilities and requirements listed below, this individual will support RESPEC’s growth through participation in various financial infrastructure and financial reporting projects. Those projects would include corporate accounting reconciliations, process development, financial reporting at the corporate or project level, and other corporate finance support.

This individual would report to RESPEC’s Controller within the General and Administrative (G&A) business unit. The G&A business unit supports RESPEC’s core business and comprises experienced and dedicated individuals. Workload and work hours are favorably balanced; although, this is a professional role and not a 9-to-5 position. Month-end closings require more time and attention than other periods. This position is a perfect opportunity for an individual who is experienced in corporate or project accounting but who is versatile and has the ability to build experience across a variety of corporate and project accounting responsibilities for a lasting and successful financial career.

The daily primary responsibilities of the Project Accountant will include the following:

  • Prepare monthly client billings in Deltek Costpoint, including labor adjustments and cost adjustments, to ensure that invoices adhere to contractual requirements
  • Enter complex direct-cost accounts payable or expense reimbursements according to RESPEC policy
  • Manage project billing deadlines and timely collection of the resulting receivables through client and project manager interaction and communication
  • Track cost, profit, backlog, and other key metrics and report the information to project managers as needed, including specific project reporting requirements for various contracts
  • Maintain and understand cost pools and indirect rates to ensure that appropriate indirect rate reporting is compiled and maintained
  • Initiate project setup and project closeout records as well as maintain and organize contract modifications during the project lifecycles
  • Manage other project and corporate responsibilities, depending on skills and expertise.

Requirements: The successful candidate is expected to have the following qualifications or skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration and a minimum of 3 years of project or corporate accounting experience
  • Proficiency is Microsoft Excel and working knowledge with all other Microsoft Office products
  • Exceptional analytical skills and dedicated quality in all levels of detail
  • Effective communication skills with accounting professionals, engineers, consultants, and business unit management
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and support many small projects as well as some large projects simultaneously
  • Ability to achieve the above proficiencies and advance their priorities with minimal management interaction.

Preferences: A successful candidate who would have immediate and long-term success would have the following experience:

  • Understand FAR, CAS, and other contractual requirements
  • Experience in working with Deltek accounting products; specifically, Deltek Costpoint
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Cognos financial reports
  • Understand and have experience in federal, state, local, and commercial contractual requirements
  • Understand and have experience in corporate accounting and corporate financial reporting requirements
  • Understand and have experience in project accounting and project financial reporting requirements
  • Experience in process development and improvements with the goal of improving specific metrics.

Location: This individual would preferably be located in the Rapid City, South Dakota, headquarters, or, alternatively, in the Denver, Colorado, accounting office. RESPEC will accept applications in both locations in an effort to hire the optimal candidate.

No relocation reimbursements will be offered.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and expertise.
