Programmer Analyst II (COBOL/JCL)

FIS is seeking a Programmer Analyst who will be responsible for implementing projects on our TBS and BASE2000 Credit Card Platforms. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong knowledge of coding, analytical, organizational and communication skills. This position implements products for new and existing clients across our platforms in the ever-growing Card product suites.

COBOL and JCL languages is required!

  • Required Skills/Experience:
  • COBOL in an IBM environment
  • Analytical Skills (i.e. not a “coding clerk”)
  • Several years programming in for a company
  • Competency with Microsoft Products Suite, especially excel
  • DB2 knowledge and coding
  • Interpret business logic to programming logic
  • Good communication Skills

Quite Desirable:

  • DYL280 programming skills
  • CICS knowledge

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participation in the conversion discovery process to learn about the client and their requirements
  • Technical analysis of the initial files received from the old processor as required
  • Creation of reports and files of data for review by the Business Analyst and the Conversion Analyst
  • If conversion programs already exist, the Programmer Analyst will setup the conversion environment from the base libraries.
  • If conversion programs already exist, the Programmer Analyst will code and unit test the unique data mapping requirements for the new project as provided by the Business or Conversion Analyst
  • If new conversion programs are being written, the Programmer Analyst will establish the new base libraries and overall environment. They will perform the technical design of the new conversion programs and code conversion programs based on the data mapping/functional design documents provided by the Business Analyst. The Programmer Analyst will unit test all code.
  • Code and unit testing of conversion reports as needed by the Conversion or Business Analyst on the project. This may encompass duplication of the standard conversion reports into the new conversion program, newly identified reports for the new conversion programs, or additional reporting needs identified for an existing conversion.
  • The Programmer analyst will establish the necessary environments to perform mock conversion testing and will execute the mock conversion runs.
  • The Programmer Analyst will produce all necessary reports and files in the mock conversion process as identified in the Test Plan.
  • The Programmer Analyst will load the converted data into the appropriate online testing region for review and validation by the business resources on the project.
  • The Programmer Analyst will create the environment for the System Test and provide the ability for business resources to conduct online testing prior to execution of the System/Batch Test.
  • The Programmer Analyst will execute the System/Batch Test per the guidelines established in the Test Plan.
  • The Programmer Analyst will provide reports or other data required out of the System/Batch Test as identified and documented in the Test Plan.
  • The Programmer Analyst will perform and code and unit test any conversion program changes identified because of mock conversion runs or system/batch test runs.
  • The Programmer Analyst will provide technical assistance as necessary in the research and resolution of problems or issues identified in the mock conversion runs and after the live conversion.
  • The Programmer Analyst will execute the conversion programs on conversion weekend and execute the jobs that load the converted accounts into the production environment.
  • The Programmer Analyst will support the production batch processing for a period after the conversion and be responsible for resolving any production issues that arise because of the newly converted data.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years Cobol knowledge
  • 5-7 years’ professional experience with a minimum of 3-5 years of full life cycle development experience and 3-5 years programming experience in financial services or a related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • In-depth knowledge of appropriate operating systems, programming languages, and development tools
  • In-depth knowledge of applications/development methodologies
  • In-depth knowledge of structured programming technology for structured language environment
  • Ability to assess requirements, alternatives, and risks/benefits for projects of any scope
  • Ability to operate effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem solving skills
  • Skill to understand and focus on the clients’ needs and goals, and to establish credibility and build relationships with clients, both internal and external
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients.
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Information Technology or a related discipline

Intermediate professional role. Moderate skills with high level of proficiency. Develops solutions that require analysis and research. Works on small to large, complex projects that require increased skill in multiple technical environments. Possesses knowledge in a specific business area. Works on one or more projects as a team member or occasionally as a project lead. May coach more junior technical staff. Works under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment. May consult with senior peers on certain projects. Typically requires four or more years of applications development experience.
