Programmer Analyst

Art Van Furniture, the Mid-West’s premier furniture and mattress retailer and one of America’s top 20 furniture and mattress retailers, is seeking an experienced Programmer-Analyst to join our Information Services Team.

Under the direction of our Director – Application Development; the Programmer-Analyst will be responsible for working on a variety of moderately complex projects involving the analysis, design, modification, installation and maintenance of application programs, integrated systems, or software solutions. Specific job duties include:

Analyzes and develops user specifications, designs, codes and tests applications to meet specifications.

Prepares documentation on all procedures utilized by programs in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Identifies options for potential solutions and assesses them for both technical and business suitability.

Coordinates all aspects of implementation and training to support new programs/systems.

Assists operations staff in the set-up, testing, and support of control language programs.

Recommends improved operational procedure to maximize systems efficiency.

Ensures system integrity.

Assists in installation of technological upgrades.

Enhances and modifies ERP (enterprise resource planning) software packages and assures integration with in-house developed solutions.

Required Skills

The position requires:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in computer/information science, business or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.

Minimum of five (5) years in a programming environment or related experience writing/maintaining programs in RPG/III, RPG/IV, Embedded SQL, Control Language (CL/CLE), Integrated Environment (ILE), Structured Queries, API, and EDI.

iSeries experience required.

Infinium, PHP, Web development experience helpful.

Experience with retail accounting, budgeting, accounts payable/receivable, inventory, warehouse management systems, logistics and sales reporting.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Strong analytical, problem solving and documentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to recognize processing/programming inefficiencies and recommend improvements.

Understanding of network protocols. Proficiency in using testing and diagnostic equipment; and on current software and systems

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.

Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Strong customer service orientation.
