Process Engineer

Department: Powertrain Process Engineering – Fremont Factory

The Role: Process Engineer for Powertrain Manufacturing

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to work in a collaborative, dynamic and intensive environment.
  • Focus for this role will be on the Small and Large Drive Unit Inverter Products. Experience with manufacturing and testing is really critical to success in this role.
  • Responsible for diagnosing issues found during the Powertrain manufacturing process and driving corrective action back to the source through controlled 8D discipline.
  • Perform process improvement for the manufacturing line on variety of mechanical and electrical processes. This includes: disposition of non-conforming material, leading a team to address out-of-control processes, driving yield improvement projects and qualifying new equipment and process.
  • Perform factory support for items such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, material handling improvements, kaizen efforts and assisting with configuration of production lines and safety procedures.
  • Analyze data from various Powertrain products to identify trends in manufacturing quality. Develop and modify test plans based on data analysis.
  • Perform process characterization and establish process controls for all critical process parameters using real-time SPC. Drive continuous improvement to ensure high throughput, low cost and improved lead-time.
  • Partner with other organizations and cross functional teams to roll out engineering changes in a timely and controlled fashion.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent; Mechanical, or Electrical preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a Manufacturing/Process Environment.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on skills with diagnostics software, hardware, tools, instruments, general electromechanical systems and measurement techniques
  • Strong problem solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Data collection and analysis experience; Test data, Field data and Quality data
  • Exceptional capacity for managing multiple simultaneous projects and challenges.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system problems; High Voltage and Low Voltage Circuit troubleshooting experience a plus
  • Communicate effectively with direct team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills: written, verbal, presentation and email.
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper, faster and in alignment with the aggressive Tesla approach to revolutionary product development.
