Job Overview:
The Process Controls Engineer is a high initiative self-starter with a high ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Garyville, LA plant.

Main Responsibilities:
Utilize troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause of problem areas in process control, human machine interface or hardware, and effectively resolve these problems with stakeholders input.

Coordinate plant control system changes and maintenance tasks with plant process engineers and support groups.

Perform changes/improvements to process control code and/or human machine interface utilizing Management of Change process.

Perform process control changes in the production environment with proper MOC controls.

Coaching for automation changes as required and assists in training efforts requested by plant production department.

Ensure appropriate reviews are completed on assigned work.

Ensure process control code changes are maintained per plant convention/standard and ensure process control strategy document is updated when changes occur.

Perform control system code loads utilizing procedures for both simulation and production environments.

Assist in project start-up and commissioning by performing initial checkout of new process control items (for example: controller tuning, alarming tuning, interlock validation, etc.).

Maintain plant MES servers (OSl Pl data historian) in coordination with plant process engineers. (Add, /delete tags, troubleshoot SQL Scripts, modify reports, etc.)

Willing and able to work when business needs arise. (i.e. nights, weekends, holidays)

Willing to troubleshoot process/production problems.

Assist in the resolution of action items that benefit the plant goals and KPI metric. (Alarms reduction, unplanned events mitigation, final elements in manual, etc.)

Keeps abreast of control system developments and identifies opportunities for new technologies and techniques.

Basic Qualifications:
BS Electrical Engineering or BS Chemical Engineering

2+ years in similar role in a manufacturing environment.

Programming experience specifically in the chemical or manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong instrumentation background with the ability to troubleshoot instrument/control problems from the field to the DCS

Prior knowledge of DCS and/or PLC:
Novatech D/3

2 or more years of experience in a role such as Instrument Tech, Electrical Tech, or Process Control Tech with responsibility for programming and maintaining a DCS system including hardware maintenance, programming of controllers, point building, and alarm management.

2 or more years working with PLCs (maintaining, writing ladder logic/function block programming).

Experienced with PID controller tuning.

Experienced in commissioning of new instrument and electrical systems/projects within a petrochemical process.

Experienced in troubleshooting process and control issues in a fast paced environment under periods of urgency and stress.

Working knowledge of basic instrumentation principles and basic electrical principals.

2 years in a petrochemical or manufacturing process environment with strong knowledge of basic process equipment and their functions. (pumps, valves, metering, etc.)

Ability to read and markup P&lD’s and instrument loop sheets.

Good verbal and written communication skills
