About the Job:

Liberty Mutual’s Commercial Insurance Information Management Analytics Team is actively searching for a Principal Software Developer to support the Data Platform & Analytics program to provide more robust technology solutions to the Data Science community (Actuaries, Data Scientists, etc.). The team is operating under agile principles and is highly engaged and self-empowered. You will learn and be engaged as the CI organization embraces what it means to be a data-driven organization through AI, Machine and Deep Learning. We’re looking for curious and independent thinkers that can grow their current skillset with us in this journey.

This is a large, cutting edge program to build out our data lake platform and analytics capabilities. There is also a lot of exposure to new technologies and platforms, such as Compute and Networking Services for AWS.

Key technologies used by the team are:

JAVA, ETL tools, Business Intelligence, SQL, Amazon AWS, Data Science tools (Redshift, Microstrategy, MapReduce, R, Python)

Responsibilities:

Coach and mentor other engineers and developers on methods and techniques
Coordinate technical dependencies with other teams, including security and operations
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the development community
Configuration management with frameworks such as Chef, Puppet, Bamboo or similar tool.
Collaborate with other engineers and developers on methods and techniques
Coordinate technical dependencies with other teams, including security and operations
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the development community

Desired skills:

Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in IT, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Must have experience with Java programming REST API’s
Experience with Traditional BI platforms, AWS would be preferred (Redshift), Tableau, Microstrategy, Cloud Computing
Experience with transformation to the cloud and supporting a data science community
Coaching and mentoring
Solid communication and negotiation skills
Passionate about data solutions
Experiences with building Microservices
General knowledge of business operations required
General knowledge of IT concepts

Helpful Skills:

Experience with any AWS Analytics Products and other Data Analytics tools and knowledge a plus
