JOB SUMMARY:

This position oversees employees responsible for creating and updating the Department of Child Safety’s (DCS) policies, procedures, rules, forms and practice guidelines.

OPEN UNTIL FILLED – First review of resumes will be Monday, January 30 th ; resumes received after January 27 th will be reviewed weekly as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

– Supervises professional staff

– Conducts research and analysis of complex policy issues

– Researches federal law, regulation and legislation related to policies; makes recommendations based on research

– Meets with internal and external customers to communicate issues and facilitate resolutions regarding policies

– Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

– Child welfare practices

– Federal and state statutes and regulations pertaining to child welfare

– Principles and practices of management

– Policy analysis and policy creation methodology

Skill in:

– Verbal and written communication

– Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

– Analyzing, conceptualizing and formulating public policies

– Time management; prioritization

– Evaluating, synthesizing and presenting information

Ability to:

– Work effectively with various levels of personnel; working with various levels of state and national government

– Solve difficult and/or complex problems

– Adapt to an ever-changing environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

– Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field

– Professional child welfare experience

– Experience developing policies

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

RETIREMENT:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
