Policy Analyst – NY Office

CSSP seeks a Policy Analyst in the New York office to support CSSP’s child welfare work focused on improving outcomes for all children and families in states involved with class action litigation. The Policy Analyst will support project work in multiple areas with a primary focus on the work of CSSP’s class action reform monitoring efforts in the state of New Jersey. The Policy Analyst will provide program support functions including managing, tracking, organizing and translating data sets, conducting data analysis, overseeing surveys, conducting policy and program research, attending on-site visits, contributing to the design and preparation of technical assistance tools and helping to support meetings and other events. This position is ideal for someone interested in data analysis and its application to public policy and system reform.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Organize, analyze and validate large data sets;
  • Track and analyze trend data;
  • Manage and conduct surveys of system staff;
  • Assist with state bi-annual monitoring report compilation, formatting, graphs and tables.
  • Assist in developing a range of written materials, including reports, memos etc.
  • Write meeting notes and share with parties.
  • Attend briefings, meetings and site visits and prepare summaries for CSSP team.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and hard-copy project materials.
  • Support other work as assigned.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Outstanding skills in working with data and its application to public policy and reform of child welfare and other human service systems.
  • Commitment to equity and work to reduce disparities based on race, ethnicity, sovereignty, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity and socioeconomics.
  • BA required, with at least three years of professional experience, or a graduate degree in public administration, public health, public policy, social work or related fields.
  • Experience working in child welfare.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to present policy, practice and research information to a variety of audiences, including federal, state and local government officials, policymakers, service providers, advocacy organizations, and community members.
  • Work well autonomously and as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of computers and technology: proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and audio/visual and conference calling technology; experience with data analysis tools and SPSS a plus.
  • Flexibility and an ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.
