Point of Sale (POS) IT Specialist – Zoo

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly

Department: Information Management Service Department

Compensation Range: $20.48 – $24.24

Under the direction of the IT Service Desk Manager the POS Specialist will provide technical support for the Zoo’s POS System in a campus-wide setting with approximately one hundred (100) customer POS registers/systems and end-user desktop support to an additional one hundred (100) workstations. The main objective of this position is to ensure all POS systems are functioning at their optimal performance levels. This position exists to ensure the Milwaukee County Zoo’s POS system is maintained to handle their transactions and revenue needs.

Job Duties:

  • POS Technical Support. Monitor and maintain proper function of POS system, cash registers, and peripherals; conduct basic configuration to set-up POS; perform a wide range of hardware installations such as mounting monitors, cash drawers, racks, shelfing, and etc.; generate standard and custom reports as needed.
  • Special Assignments and Projects. Assist with planning, installation, troubleshooting, and ongoing support of special projects; assist with new and upgrade POS hardware and software installations; maintain websites and social networking applications.
  • Instruct and Document Processes. Instruct users and document system use to ensure understanding of POS system, computer equipment, and applications; answer questions and assist in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computer applications.
  • End User Customer Relations. Ensure expectations are being met by communicating and maintaining key POS business relationships with other teams, department, and vendors; give feedback and recommendations to other internal teams to improve services and reduce desktop support requests.
  • End User Computer Support. Troubleshoot all end-user desktop computer related problems to restore optimal productivity; manager ongoing Service Desk tickets; provide timely updated and detailed progress to issues if not initially involved.
  • POS Item Setup, Changes, and Inventory. Add, remove, and change products and SKU’s; year-end inventory tasks and reconciliations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Possession of a High School diploma or GED is required.
    • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License is required and maintained throughout employment.
    • Possession of an Associate’s Degree or higher in Information Technology (IT).
    • At least ONE year of technical experience working in a POS system AND in Information Technology.
    • Intermediate knowledge of all computer and software applications such as Microsoft Office programs.
    • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30lbs on a regular basis.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of Ceridian system and cash register programming; excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, follow oral and written instructions, and work effectively and harmoniously with others.
