GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a full-time highly qualified pilot who can provide safe and efficient on demand air transportation to elected officials, state employees, and members of state commissions and boards by staffing and piloting state aircraft at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Serves as Pilot-in-Command or Second-in-Command of multi-engine aircraft in support of transportation needs for the State of Wyoming.
  • Operates aircraft safely and efficiently in complex airspace, day and night operations, and all weather conditions to ensure successful completion of mission.
  • Serves as back-up Pilot-in-Command of single engine aircraft in support of photogrammetry missions, primarily operating aircraft in day, visual conditions.
  • Completes all preflight planning for missions, including filing of flight plans, reviews airport conditions, coordinates with on site FBOs for aircraft and passenger handling, reviews weather trends, forecasts, and conditions, prepares weight and balance records, coordinates passenger loading, and records flight data.
  • Coordinates photogrammetry missions, with engineering to ensure proper flight tracks and locations are loaded and weather conditions will permit accomplishment of the mission.
  • Communicates all post flight information to the Flight Operations Department to ensure all airport, nav-aid, and aircraft status is up-to-date and any irregularities are communicated.

PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to candidates with an ATP License and CE-500 type rating, 2000 hours of fixed wing aircraft time, 1000 hours flying as a pilot-in-command and a first class medical certificate.

KNOWLEDGE :

  • Knowledge of piloting skills to operate single-engine and multi-engine aircraft in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of aviation safety, cockpit resource management, and risk management.
  • Knowledge of how to interact with other personnel to assist in smoothly operating flight department.
  • Knowledge of IFR/VFR rules and flight planning.
  • Knowledge of professional publications, to include Federal Aviation Regulations, air traffic control procedures, and the Airman’s Information Manual.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree PLUS Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Piloting) PLUS Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Pilot’s License consisting of a commercial certificate with instrument rating for airplane (single and multi-engine rating) with 2000 hours total flying time, 1000 hours fixed-wing aircraft time, 750 hours flying as pilot-in-command, 250 hours flying multi-engine airplane, 100 hours of night flying and 100 hours of actual or simulated instrument flying of which 50 hours must be in actual flight and a second class or higher Medical Certificate. OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Piloting) PLUS Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Pilot’s License consisting of a commercial certificate with instrument rating for airplane (single and multi-engine rating) with 2000 hours total flying time, 1000 hours fixed-wing aircraft time, 750 hours flying as pilot-in-command, 250 hours flying multi-engine airplane, 100 hours of night flying and 100 hours of actual or simulated instrument flying of which 50 hours must be in actual flight and a second class or higher Medical Certificate.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 7 Days a week availability
  • Annual flight time 300 hours
