Pharmacist

This position ensures the safe, timely and effective dissemination of medications to patients at the Wyoming State Hospital.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Verify inpatient and outpatient medication orders entered.
  • Clarify any questionable or unclear orders, including concerns regarding medication selection, dosage, route, frequency and duration.
  • Provide consultation, collaboration and support to the medical staff regarding pharmacologic issues.
  • Dispense medications pursuant to an order and/or standing medication request.
  • Provide a double check of Pharmacy Technician’s work.
  • Assist with delivery of medications on the patient units.
  • Order medications from distributors and assist with receiving daily medication orders.
  • Account for ordered and dispensed controlled substances.
  • Perform patient medication profile reviews.
  • Participate in Investigational Review Committee and Pharmacy and Therapeutics meetings as a consultive member.
  • Perform other duties relating to the pharmacy as deemed necessary by the pharmacist in charge.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of the basic premises of medical practice, pharmacology and toxicology.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming and federal laws that apply to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and rules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Pharmacy)

Experience:

1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Pharmacy)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to be on feet for most of the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with assistance.

NOTES:

  • This is an At-Will position
  • FLSA: Exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
