JOB DESCRIPTION: Technical Trainer

Location: UC Berkeley campus

Term: 3 months

In 2017, a new department will be established to oversee the operations of the software solution installed during 2016 to replace the university’s constellation of disparate student systems. The department is part of Information Systems and Technology in the division of Administration and Finance at UC Berkeley.

The objective of the new department is to operationalize a continuous cycle of technical improvement and feature enhancements in the new PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system and its associated applications implemented as part of the Student Information Systems Project. These applications support processes in admissions, enrollment, registration, financial aid, student accounts, advising, and a student portal. To ensure the success of these mission-critical systems, the new department will be staffed with a blend of technical and functional experts who will test and implement new features, respond to campus needs, and keep all systems running optimally throughout the

academic cycle.

The Technical Trainer will act as the consultant and coordinator of end-user training for the University’s Student Information System (SIS) and will be responsible for the development of training strategies and programs that support the continued expansion and use of SIS tools and functionality. The Technical Trainer will work with stakeholders, other campus trainers and departmental staff to identify training needs and develop appropriate content, delivery methods, and timing. The incumbent will develop, provide, and deliver SIS training and material and will act as a coordinating point-of-contact for the campus in regards to SIS training needs, including the creation and coordination of a community of practice of departmental staff who conduct training and provide material support to departmental staff.

SCOPE:

Custom Scope : Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced training and development professional to resolve a wide range of training issues and needs assessments. Develops new training programs and works on complex training courses of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering training and development programs.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

35 % – Develops new training programs, courses, and content in response to end-users’ training needs. Assumes responsibility for training programs for specific user groups and systems functionality, including coordinating with departmental staff. Works in concert with other campus staff in the provision of training.

20% – Delivers training in a variety of formats (classes, online, webcasts, etc.) to support users’ learning experience.

20% – Collaborates with departmental leadership, functional teams, and a wide range of campus stakeholders to identify training needs and appropriate delivery methods

15% – Consults with SIS functional teams to develop an in-depth understanding of UC Berkeley business processes related to SIS data. Analyzes impact of change from old to new processes and resultant training needs.

5% – Works with Student Information System (SIS) technical and functional teams to gain comprehensive knowledge of the system’s functionality and capabilities.

5% – Evaluates effectiveness of training programs and adjusts training design and delivery as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, version 9.2 and have experience with “Tile Navigation.”
  • Proven experience delivering successful training programs.
  • Strong presentation skills in a broad range of settings, and the ability to engage a wide audience in the learning experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of current training methodologies and the ability to apply learning theories to successful training of adult learners.
  • Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and develop new training courses to meet organizational needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of functional areas and the ability to assess how work may impact other areas in the organization.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of content-building software such as Adobe Captivate, PeopleSoft UPK or similar tools.
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analyses and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Background check required.

PREFERRED:

  • Working knowledge of campus business processes and student functionality related to SIS systems.
  • UC Berkeley Student Information Systems Project experience.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
