PCB Electrical Engineer

Position Overview:
Siemens Healthineers Molecular Imaging, a $1 Billion Business Unit within Siemens Medical Solutions US, has an opening for a PCB Designer at our Rockford, TN location. We are a high-technology business leading the change towards personalized medicine. The selected candidate will join the Detector Center Research & Development department, responsible for the development and lifecycle of the current product and next generation of Molecular Imaging PET Detectors.

The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designer will be responsible for all aspects of PCB design including layout, design verification, board level simulation, and post processing. The candidate must be able to operate independently to design electronic printed circuit boards from a schematic and design requirements working with an Electrical Engineer. Candidates should possess strong communication skills both written and oral. Candidates must be comfortable in an environment where quick, innovative and cost saving solutions work hand in hand with trouble shooting and sustaining of existing design platforms. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to work independently, yet collaboratively, in multidisciplinary team environment.

This Role will include the following responsibilities:
PCB layout and routing for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector electronics throughout the complete lifecycle: high-level design, concept research, simulation, prototype evaluation, performance testing, system integration testing, manufacturing launch and sustaining through commercialization.

  • Responsible for all aspects of printed circuit board design including layout, design, verification and post processing.
  • Determination of layer stackup, perform component package selection, component placement, routing feasibility studies, and signal routing of digital, analog, RF and power conversion.
  • Interface with design engineers to understand requirements of the design.
  • Create parts lists, fabrication and assembly drawings from a schematic.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and PCB vendors to continually improve design rules, constraints and Design for Test and Manufacture guidelines.
  • Incorporate changes to existing design documentation.
  • Create and maintain component libraries in Mentor Graphics.
  • Creation and release of documentation for fabrication of PCBs.
  • Use knowledge and experience to troubleshoot component and integration level failures.
  • Conduct and participate in layout, schematic, and subsystem reviews.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5+ years PCB layout and routing experience in some or all of the following areas: modern passive and active electronics components, surface-mount, ball-grid array and similar fine pitch, high pin density components.
  • Experienced user of Mentor Graphics DxDesigner schematic capture.
  • Fluent with Mentor Graphics Xpedition workflow.
  • E xperience with PCB board material (FR4, PTFE, Rogers, C-Ply, etc.) and their physical properties in the PCB design aspects. Experience with impedance controlled transmission-line routing.
  • Layout and routing of multi-layer high density PCB’s using Mentor Graphics Xpedition.
  • Have a mix of commercial and IPC standards and design based experience such as HV ( >1KV) gradient and clearance requirements in PCB routing.
  • Ability to visualize component placement and interconnectivity.
  • Strong electronics background and sound technical fundamentals in electronics theory and product design.
  • Organized, flexible and able to multitask in a dynamic team environment.
  • Experience meeting deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Occasional travel is required to global supply chain partners, collaboration partners and Siemens MI offices in Hoffman Estates, IL and Knoxville, TN.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or similar area of study
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics HyperLynx (or equivalent) signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis and verification tools.
  • Experienced user of test equipment including (but not limited to): oscilloscope, logic analyzer, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, and vector network analyzer.
  • Advanced computer skills
