Payroll Manager

Manage and direct the activities of others and develop and control all tasks necessary to accomplish payroll processing objectives; including relationships with TPA, internal and external auditors, and federal, state, and local agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform payroll processing and related activities
  • Analyze and prioritize Company initiatives and processes
  • Prioritize, and assign tasks related to payroll issues based on task complexity and staff competencies
  • Collaborate with and provide expert advice to internal / external departments and staff regarding pay related considerations
  • Mentor, coach, and provide continuous staff development, project review and review of departmental controls
  • Oversee and review wage and tax reconciliations
  • Benefit reporting and process company wide incentive bonus payments.
  • Oversee quarter and year-end close to ensure timeliness and accuracy
  • Continuously analyze and assess existing processes to assure they are aligned to and support organization initiatives and are in compliance with current company policy and governmental regulations
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance and oversight of the HRIS system relative to system payroll operations
  • Provide ad hoc interpretations of company philosophy, policy, and principles relative to all payroll practices and processing and regulatory factors
  • Research and provide problem resolution in a timely and effective manner with highest regard for excellent customer service
  • Oversee wage payment calculation and entry, system entry and management and maintenance for taxes, direct deposit and voluntary/involuntary deductions and deduction data
  • Assist in the annual review of the wage, tax, and benefit records
  • Perform all activities necessary to process payrolls for the Company’s employees. This includes customer service support for employees and management as it relates to payroll, wage payment calculations and entry, system entry and management and maintenance for taxes, direct deposit and voluntary/involuntary deductions and deduction data
  • Prepare reports for other departments and management
  • Must perform all duties assigned to perform the requirements of the position
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 plus years of experience in a large union/non-union employer environment OR equivalent combination of education and demonstrated payroll experience and knowledge
  • Experienced with effective management of the day-to-day operation of payroll processes for a large, multi-state, multi-company employer
  • Ability to effectively direct, schedule, counsel and evaluate employee performance
  • Advanced competency of the payroll function, including; payroll fundamentals and operations, tax and regulatory compliance, accounting, payroll and related systems, management and administration
  • CPP Preferred
  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
