Patient Access Specialist Lead

Under general supervision of the Patient Access Supervisor the incumbent will be expected to be versatile in all areas of responsibility and accommodate numerous situational types in difficult areas including, but not limited to: Bed Control, Inpatient, Urgent Care, Pediatrics Urgent and Emergent care, Emergency Department, Psychiatric Emergency Services, and Insurance Verification/Authorization. Ability to promote positive customer service in a high stress 24/7 environment. Acts as a Lead in supporting Admissions registration staff in collecting comprehensive demographic and insurance information required for facilitating timely and accurate billing of patients presenting for services. Lead employees’ duties: may supervise and process patient valuables in the absence of the supervisor, performs cash handling, performs Quality assurance audits and communication of changes in policies, procedures and processes. Trains new hires as wells as makes recommendations for re-training. Ability to resolve patient complaints and communicate in a professional and customer focus based mannerism. Required to represent Admissions Leadership and support departmental financial, collection and QA initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate required.

Experience: Typically, three years of clerical experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bi-lingual skills a plus. Excellent telephone and critical analytical thinking skills, with an emphasis on customer service. Must pass Windows XP and typing test (25wpm). Ability to work with the public explaining policies and procedures in a hospital setting.The position requires availability to work on holidays and weekends in order to accommodate 24 hour, 7-day-per-week operation which includes flexing hours to stay late or come in early is required.

Certificate/License/Registration: CHAA All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
