Part Time Software Development Engineer I

Amazon is piloting part-time teams in the People Tech group, where we are building high-visibility, enterprise-wide solutions, all on a 30-hour work week schedule. These solutions will be at the heart of workforce planning for one of the most innovative and fastest growing companies on Earth. Each team member, including managers, are on the same part-time schedule, eliminating the challenges that can come from being part-time on a full-time team. As a part-time engineer, you’ll receive the same benefits as full-time employees, with compensation proportionate to working ¾ time.

The Workforce Technology team will be chartered to build high-visibility, enterprise-wide solutions that Amazonians can use to manage employee life-cycle data and make critical business decisions. These solutions will be the heart of workforce planning for one of the largest and fastest-growing companies on earth.

You have top notch computer science skills, are obsessed with customer satisfaction, and have a passion for leveraging cutting-edge technologies to build incredible products. You understand back-end services and know how to conceptualize, design, implement, and fix them. You go through life thinking about how to use technology to solve problems. You live and breathe data analysis, and can succinctly and accurately report your findings. You understand the untapped power of utilizing Internet technologies to support Amazon’s goal to be the most customer-centric company in the world. Most importantly, you have a passion for learning and are driven to be the best at what you do.

Basic Qualifications
· 1+ years industry experience designing and building software tools, applications, or back-end multi-tiered distributed systems.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field

· Expertise in Computer Science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, complexity analysis, object oriented design, unit & integration testing, and distributed systems architecture.

· Significant experience & proficiency with modern programming languages – Java, C, C++, C#, Python, etc.

· Proficiency with relational & non-relational databases and a broad range of software design patterns.

Preferred Qualifications
· Java development experience in a *nix environment.

· Familiarity with WebDev concepts and technologies- AJAX, HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, CSS etc.

· Knowledge of, or experience with data analytics concepts, techniques and approaches (statistical inference, regression models etc.)

· Knowledge of, or experience with machine learning- regression, classification, clustering & retrieval, recommender systems & dimensionality reduction, deep learning etc.

· Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills working in team environment.
