Part-Time Security Officer

Job Objective: Responsible for security investigations, controlling access to, conducting physical inspections of, and monitoring surveillance
cameras located at the facility. Assists the Front Desk and other hotel departments as needed or requested. Familiar and complies with the da Vinci Villa and GMP Management’s mission and standards in performing all key areas of accountability and other essential duties and responsibilities.

Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Ensure the safety and security of guests and employees as well as the protection of da Vinci Villa and Café Como properties and assets.
  • Is responsible for completing all phases of Security investigations while maintaining confidential information, procedures and methods of investigations of internal and external issues.
  • Investigates and follows-up on breaches in security, guest and employee accidents.
  • Questions witnesses to incidents, examines incident scenes, gathers evidence and data to assist in determination of cause and identification of areas where corrective actions are indicated/needed.
  • Performs lock interrogation operations whenever necessary as part of departmental incident investigation.
  • Attends all Security Department training-related activities.
  • Thoroughly understands all Hotel Emergency Response Procedures and assists in the coordination of all emergency response activities.
  • Oversees access control activities at all facility entrances/exits, public and private areas; ensures that only authorized individuals enter the Hotel facilities.
  • Oversees inspection of all packages entering and exiting through facility employee entrances, denies access to or coordinates removal of unauthorized materials.
  • Oversees verification that all materials leaving facilities are accompanied by a completed, signed package removal pass; confiscates and turns over to management all materials not properly authorized.
  • Continually patrols front of house, back of house and exterior hotel areas, reporting any safety or security hazards, suspicious behavior or persons.
  • Conducts routine checks on all cars parked on Hotel premises have the appropriate validation tickets. Documents and reports all unauthorized vehicles issuing citations as required.
  • Monitors CCTV systems and radio communications. Investigates and resolves any potential breaches in security.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation on all security-related issues and assists in the creation of appropriate Security reports.
  • Oversees lost and found activities in accordance with hotel policies and procedures.
  • Enforces hotel rules/regulations in accordance with Employee Handbook and hotel policy and procedure.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with hotel key control policies by all employees.
  • Interacts with guests and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Responds to all guest and employee incidents, gathers information, secures area, if necessary, to preserve evidence.
  • Conduct periodic safety and security inspections.
  • Completes Daily Activity Reports (DAR) in a timely manner and submits copy to Director of Security, General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Human Resources Manager and Ownership.
  • Ensures that all after-hour storeroom entries are documented, that the reason for entry is indicated and that proper requisitions are obtained for all items removed.
  • Answers department phone lines in prompt and courteous manner in accordance with all da Vinci Villa’s standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists other departments in daily operational tasks as directed by the Department Head and/or Supervisor.
  • Relieves Front Desk Agents for breaks as needed particularly for the graveyard shift.
  • Provides direct assistance to Front Desk Agents during high volume check-ins/outs and covers shifts as needed.
  • Answers and handles all incoming telephone calls efficiently and accurately according to da Vinci Villa standards.
  • Answers inquiries pertaining to hotel services, registration of guests; shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions.
  • Greets and completes established check-in procedures for arriving guests on a daily basis, using both manual and computerized methods, in order to ensure guests are satisfied and assigned to rooms as requested.
  • Facilitates guest departure (check-out) on a daily basis by following established manual and computer procedures in order to close guest accounts and open the room for the next sell.
  • Collects payment and makes change for guests (and will be held accountable for any shortages in the cash register).
  • Promptly prepares and delivers room service orders after regular restaurant hours to guests.
  • Carries and responds to cell phone/radio at all times.
  • Ensures proper uniform and nametag is worn at all times and upholds da Vinci Villa’s professional grooming standards.
  • Complies with all safety and health requirements of da Vinci Villa, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participates in Hotel-wide and departmental Safety Training.
  • Completes security incident reports as required.
  • Ensure all incidents are accurately documented and filed.
  • Ensure all Security logs are documented, filed and organized.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred. Four years Law Enforcement/Military training required and/or two years previous hotel Security experience in a boutique or city hotel required.

Language Skills: Position requires excellent spoken and written English communications skills including: ability to read, analyze, and interpret hospitality industry journals, and legal documents; ability to effectively and appropriately respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; ability to effectively and appropriately present information to corporate management, public groups, potential clients, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates/Licenses: CPR, AED, First Aid and/or Servsafe Food Handling certification may be required. Guard Card. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Equipment/Computer Expertise: Basic typing skills and ability to operate standard office equipment including: copier, facsimile, multiple-line telephone system, 10-key, internet applications, etc. Must be experienced with and be able to effectively and efficiently use an IBM-type computer and printer to handle room reservations/check-in/out, payroll, word processing, database management and spreadsheet accounting (Epitome, MICROS, Lodgenet preferred).

Performance Evaluation: The Security Officer’s performance will be evaluated based on the following non-exhaustive factors: reliable, accurate and timely performance in areas of key accountability and other duties and responsibilities; achievement of da Vinci Villa and GMP management’s goals; compliance with da Vinci Villa policies and procedures; attendance; work quality; completion and accuracy of assigned tasks/duties and reports; maintenance of positive, team-building attitude; and courteous and professional guest service. The evaluation may be based on input obtained from GM and other managers, as well as guest comments and/or comment cards.
