MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of the tenth grade; and

One year of experience in park maintenance and parks interpretive or recreational programs; and Possession of a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application; and Possession of a valid Driver License.

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and

Possession of a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application; and

Possession of a valid Driver License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 60 pounds.

Must be able to bend and kneel with regularity.

Manual dexterity for use of tools, equipment, and computers.

Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions in a subtropical climate.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Ability to safely travel on foot through an unpaved natural environment.

Ability to safely paddle a canoe or kayak.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Working knowledge of applicable park regulations, ordinances, nature and recreational programs.

Working knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques.

Working knowledge of one or more building trades.

Working knowledge of job related OSHA safety requirements.

Skill in making presentations to groups.

Skill in the use of custodial, grounds keeping and building trades equipment and tools.

Ability to become a State-certified prescribed burner through the Florida Division of Forestry.

Ability to read and understand job related material.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions in a subtropical climate.

Ability to use a computer and related software.

Ability to properly and safely operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to lift weights up to sixty (60) pounds.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

Monitors park grounds, facilities,aquatic and swimming areas; opens and closes gates and control traffic to ensure patrons comply with County ordinances, regulations and safety requirements.

Instructs visitors concerning park services, makes reservations, and collects fees.

Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to patrons during emergencies.

Develops interpretive programs on nature, environmental, flora, fauna and similar topics and presents to visitors, students and other groups to provide informative, interesting and quality information to patrons. .

Instructs patrons on the proper techniques of canoeing, fishing, camping, arts and crafts.

Maintains and repairs park structures including picnic shelters, tables, boardwalks, docks, gates, fences, restrooms and other facilities by performing skilled and semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical and other building maintenance tasks to maintain parks and facilities in a proper and safe operating condition.

Plants sod; mows and edges lawns; plants, trims and waters trees and plants; sprays pesticides and fertilizers; clears trails and performs other gardening, grounds keeping and landscaping tasks as required .

Cleans and resupplies restrooms, picnic shelters and other facilities; collects and empties trash.

Participates in prescribed burns and related tasks to manage ecosystems and reduce fuels to prevent serious forest fires.

Assigns, reviews and oversees the work performed by less experienced park rangers, lifeguards, community service and volunteer workers.

Maintains resource library; provides inputs on budget requirements; maintains records and prepares reports on attendance, incidents of vandalism, accidents and emergencies; and prepares and makes bank deposits.

Collects park entry and other related fees.

Performs other related duties as required.

Health Plan: The County pays towards health insurance premiums for all employees. Employees can select from three health care plan options. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment.

Dental Insurance: Employees are eligible to enroll in the dental coverage and choose from four options: High DMO, Low DMO, a network Open Access Plan, and a PPO. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Vision Care: Employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in the vision coverage. Co-payment coverage includes exams, lens and frame, as well as an allowable contact lens expense. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Employee Assistance Program: This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Coverage begins on the first day of employment.

Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.

Holidays: Employees receive up to 12 paid holidays per year.
