Texas Appleseed Part-Time Financial Public Policy Intern

Texas Appleseed is seeking a part-time Public Policy Intern to support our Fair Financial Services Project.

Mission

Texas Appleseed’s mission is to promote social and economic justice for all Texans. We leverage the skills and resources of volunteer lawyers and other professionals to identify practical solutions to difficult systemic problems like financial access and predatory lending, the school-to-prison pipeline, fair housing, and criminal justice system reform.

Financial Public Policy Intern

This position will serve a key role in carrying out our mission. The Public Policy Intern will report directly to the Senior Policy Analyst that leads our Fair Lending Services project. The intern will assist with statistical analysis, Google mapping, basic data entry, and will conduct legal and policy research. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about the nonprofit sector and the lending industry.

Duties

  • Conducting literature reviews and research
  • Creating policy recommendations
  • Cleaning, preparing, and organizing data for analysis
  • Data entry
  • Presenting data in charts, graphs, tables, maps, reports, and otherwise making data accessible to diverse audiences, including the general public
  • Contributing to analytical sections of research reports
  • Social media and website postings

Qualifications

You must be able to work approximately 10-15 hours per week

  • Students must be a graduate student studying law, public affairs, urban planning or finance
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of data with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with Excel Pivot Tables
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to issues of social, economic and racial justice

This is a part-time position, 10-15 hours per week, salary commensurate with experience. While schedule may be flexible, the applicant must be available to work 15 hours per week during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm).
