Outreach and Policy Intern

Essential Functions

The Outreach & Policy Intern will implement outreach activities to support MWF goals, including assisting with priority conservation campaigns and assisting with membership development and fundraising.

Duties

  • Develop outreach materials on priority issues.
  • Assist with content for MWF website and social networking sites.
  • Support MWF members and other volunteers in developing, drafting, and placing letters-to-the-editor and opinion columns on priority conservation campaigns.
  • Provide content for the MWF print newsletter.
  • Organize and participate in outreach events to support key campaigns and recruit MWF members.
  • Participate in coalition activity on priority campaigns (campaign calls, implementation of identified tactics, etc).
  • Assist with membership renewal mailings and other fundraising activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings to update staff on outreach activities.
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with event planning and meeting coordination.
  • Familiarity with web and social media content development; basic design and image formatting skills
  • Basic design/layout skills and experience with desktop publishing and image software would be helpful.
  • Enthusiasm for fish and wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation.

Work Location, Hours, and Compensation

The position will be based at MWF’s office in Helena. MWF will provide workspace, equipment, and supplies. MWF will reimburse for business travel and necessary expenses. Work hours should be approximately 20-30 hours/week; schedule can planned to accommodate availability. Compensation will be $10.00/hour.

Founded in 1936, the Montana Wildlife Federation (MWF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of Montana’s abundant wildlife, natural lands, and healthy waters, and public access for hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation.

Current priority campaigns at MWF include:

  • Protecting federal public lands from state government takeover or sale
  • Management of federal lands to protect wildlife habitat and public access
  • Protection and restoration of imperiled fish and wildlife
  • Science-based management of big game
  • Defense and expansion of public access for hunting, fishing, and other recreation

The Montana Wildlife Federation has a staff of eight people, several thousand members around Montana, and a network of affiliated partner organizations.

Job Type: Internship

Salary: $10.00 /hour
