This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

This is an advanced professional position in a county wide disease prevention program. Incumbent must exercise independent judgement and initiative and is expected to communicate by phone, fax, internet or in person in a courteous and professional manner at all times. Position requires collection and generation of reports and, as such, must have knowledge and experience in bio statistical methods. This position is supervised by the Senior Human Services Program manager SES.

Prepares graphic, oral and written summaries of disease findings for the Epidemiology Director, Health Department Programs and Community Partners. Aids in the maintenance of information security and disease registries including the Merlin database. Plans, develops, and implements methods for collection and summary of disease morbidity and mortality data. Collects, organizes and analyzed health statistics. Prepares reports on set schedule and upon request. Aids in the development of computer applications methods and provides in-service training related to study design, questionnaire development, interview methods and principles of biostatistics and epidemiology. Responds promptly to data requests. Distributes data summaries to community partners as requested. Posts selected data summaries of health statistics on the BCHD web site.

Develops program methods for data collection and statistical analysis of communicable diseases, including disease suggestive of Bioterrorism and other Weapons of Mass Destruction. In conjunction with the Operations Consultant, provides consultation, technical assistance and training to community partners to establish rapid automated systems for disease reporting and the Florida Department of Health’s Epidemiology Community project.

Participates in the conduction and coordination of epidemiological investigations of disease outbreaks. This may entail questionnaire and interview design, interviewing of subjects, preparation of a plan of action for analysis of data, compilation of reports, development of control plans and surveillance of disease. Uses epidemiologic and statistical methods to supplement environmental assessments and related them to health problems. As part of the epidemiological team, this position will be required to be on call on weekend and holidays in support of an epidemiologic investigation.

Serves as part of the statewide response team that may be deployed on short notice to respond to a natural, accidentally man-made, or Weapons of Mass Destruction event.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Valid FL driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within in thirty days of employment and access to a reliable automobile to be utilized for work purposes.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s of Public Health degree with a concentration in biostatics or epidemiology.

Two (2) years professional experience in biostatistics or epidemiology.

Two (2) years professional experience writing SAS codes.

Two (2) years of professional experience in analyzing large databases.
