Nurse, Registered Manager

The Idaho Department of Correction is the 3rd largest employer in Idaho state government. This announcement will be used to fill a current opening in Management Services Division, Health Services and will report to the Director of Health Services.

The incumbent oversees a multi-faceted comprehensive health care contract and inmate health care provided in county jails and out of state facilities. This position will require some travel. Correctional experience is preferred. Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC department promotional and/or statewide promotional applicants. Previous scores will not be used.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct medical audits

Monitor health care operations including case management/utilization review

Serve as a resource on policies and procedures

Provide consultation and coordinate program activities with other departments, agencies and provider/client groups to ensure program effectiveness

Participate in quality management activities

Confer with department staff on requirements and program compliance issues

Participate in long-range planning and policy development

Maintain excellent communication with contact health care providers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed as a Professional or Registered Nurse in Idaho as defined by Idaho Code 54-1408 or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418, in one of the following compact states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin. (Required at the time of appointment)

Good knowledge of supervision

Experience assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies and procedures and recommending appropriate actions

Specialty Qualifications:
Willing to work in an adult correctional facility

Desirable Qualification:
Experience making at least two oral presentations to groups using a lesson plan or program of instruction

Knowledge of a correctional health care environment

HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing

Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints

Having a history of law-abiding behavior Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI’s, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors

Have a dishonorable discharge from military service

Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs

Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)

EXAMINATION:
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) – In compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003, we are required to obtain certain information in the exam/interview process and consider specific information when making hiring and selection decisions for positions that have contact with inmates “in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution…” The PREA Standards do not require we obtain this information for positions not within a correctional facility such as Probation & Parole and Central Office positions. Again, these changes are being implemented in order for the department to the meet the requirement of PREA standards. Minimum Qualifications Exam – You will receive a score based on your education and experience in the answers to the exam. A minimum score of 66 is required to pass. Notification of your test results will be available online when the exam review process has been completed.
