Network Support Technician (full time, mainly remote. NY/NJ)

Job description:

This is a full time position for San Diego based Managed Service Provider (MSP) in a helpdesk and dispatch capacity.

Job functions and responsibilities:

  • Provide helpdesk support via phone, e-mail remote control tools to clients across the country
  • Work from home (70-95%)
  • Visit client sites and travel (5-30%)
  • Travel requirement between Boston and Philadelphia (by car, train and occasionally by plane)
  • Scheduled dispatch to client sites for troubleshooting, project work and meetings
  • Scheduled client on-site commitments that range from a few hours to several days a week
  • Work from home on helpdesk and project work
  • Emergency dispatch during after-hours
  • Occasional shift on after-hours phone duty rotation
  • Compile and maintain client documentation

Position compensation and benefits:

  • Salary: $4,000-$5,500 per month (based on your location, experience and ability to learn)

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Must be US citizen
  • Clean driving/criminal record
  • Reliable transportation and modern smartphone (iPhone or Android based device)
  • Ability to follow directions and solve problems under pressure while maintaining professional demeanor
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be detail oriented
  • Ability to follow procedures and take direction
  • Have appropriate business attire and presentation manners
  • Must be able to lift equipment and put it into a rack on occasion
  • Must pass 90 day probation period and receive good performance review
  • Must have broadband, high-speed internet connection compatible with VoIP/SIP phone system

Experience installing, configuring, managing:

  • MS Office, Google Apps, OS X, Windows Vista/7/8/10, Server 2003-2012 installation, configuration, troubleshooting
  • User and permission administration and management in a domain (AD, GPO, etc)
  • Network data sharing: SMB, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting for desktops, servers, NAS, SAN
  • Hardware: servers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and storage from major manufacturers.
  • Networking basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, SSH, FTP, HTTP/HTTPS, IPSEC, L2TP
  • Routing, LAN, WAN, VLAN methodologies mainly with SonicWall, HP, Cisco equipment
  • Apple iOS, Android based mobile device configuration, app installation and device management

Additionally desired but not required:

  • Linux, VMware, Active Directory, Exchange, MS SQL installation, configuration and troubleshooting experience
  • Installation and configuration of LAMP
  • Command line use in Linux/Unix/PowerShell
  • HIPPA, SOX, FDA compliance knowledge
  • Experience leading projects
  • Experience installing, configuring and managing equipment by Dell, HP, Sonicwall, Netgear, EqualLogic, Ubiquity Networks, Fortinet, Cisco, APC, Meraki, NetApp, QNAP and others
  • Experience and familiarity with: VMware vSphere vSphere, Veeam, Microsoft Exchange, MS SQL, ESET, McAfee, Office365, CommVault
