Network Enterprise Architect

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Network Infrastructure Senior Manager, the Network Enterprise Architect is responsible for architecting current and future enterprise voice/data network communications systems and for providing the highest level of problem resolution. This position architects services that support the enterprise network such as monitoring tools, hardware and software resources. Also, this position completes research, and recommends solutions that will result in secure and consistently reliable network communications.

Position Qualifications

Minimum education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field and seven (7) years’ experience in designing diverse solutions for supporting, designing, developing, configuring, and implementing enterprise networks. An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements:
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of:

  • LAN/WAN topology, switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, wireless access points and VPN’s. Knowledge and ability in preparation of network design specifications.
  • Secure network switching and routing at an enterprise level, wiring and cabling, and network management required.
  • VoIP, and TCP/IP network environments.


Skill in:

  • Troubleshooting and the ability to isolate problems, restore service, and determine root cause.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in clear concise written materials.
  • Working within design teams and mentor IT colleagues.
  • Effectively influencing and communicating cross-functionally with all levels of management.


Ability to:

  • Provide advanced technical support to Network Engineers.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present research findings required.
  • Conceive a variety of solutions to functional problems, reduce those solutions to executable actions, and make actions easily understood to information technology professionals.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and users.
  • Work on-call, additional hours, respond to incidents, and work rotating shifts.

Preferred education and/or experience:
Three (3) years’ work experience focused in network design. Cisco Nexus experience.

Preferred Training, Certifications and/or Other Special Requirements:
Cisco Network Certification (CCNP), Cisco Nexus training and certifications, Avaya VOIP training and certifications.

Working Conditions:
This position will work in a general office environment; may be required to respond to calls 24/7; may be required to drive to various County facilities throughout the metropolitan Phoenix area.Work is performed in a general office environment. May be required to respond to calls 24/7 as needed. Requires travel to and from job related locations during the course of a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business.

Essential Job Tasks
  • Performs network architecture services that effectively address business needs, service-level, availability and information security requirements.
  • Analyzes technical needs, requirements and the current state of the network’s infrastructure design, integration and operations.
  • Provides the highest level of support and lead efforts to resolve complex network-related issues and incidents.
  • Gathers business requirements from clients to use in the planning, forecasting, designing and securing of the enterprise network.
  • Leads project technical teams to assess and implement large-scale converged voice and data networking projects.
  • Produces electronic drawings for complex, large-scale, voice and data converged network designs.
  • Communicates, both verbally and in well written, concise documents, the architecture for network designs and procurement of network equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with establishing governing principles for network design and deployment.
  • Participates in establishing stability, growth and a long-term road map for the enterprise network.
Selection Procedure

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
