POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Associate Director of Network Operations, the Network engineer position is responsible for daily support of Medical Center’s data network. Providing 1 st and 2nd level support for all network troubleshooting. Ensures the smooth operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability. Position also supports project implementation efforts.

III. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the ongoing support of various networking devices and software supporting the local area, wide area and wireless network infrastructures.
  • Create and maintain system documentation for the Enterprise Data Networks
  • Supports all network patching for Moves, Adds and Changes
  • Performs routine maintenance and code upgrades for network devices
  • Coordination of network changes in conjunction with Change Management policies.
  • Monitor systems alerts, performance and utilization reporting utilizing management tools
  • Provides support for project implementation and refresh activities
  • Network problem management, reporting and escalation

IV. SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires in depth hands on knowledge of IP networking systems, 802.11 Wireless technologies, End User Infrastructure Support, Network Management Tools, Various Cable Specifications, etc.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of IP subnetting and addressing
  • Must have experience working with carriers and troubleshooting WAN circuits ranging from serial (T1) to 10 Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1-3-years’ experience with cisco series Wireless Access Points and Wireless controllers.
  • Work experience in healthcare and/or education or equivalent experience in complex organizations a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ hands on experience with IP routing protocols, EIGRP and BGP
  • Working knowledge of IP Services such as DNS and DHCP, Infoblox experience a plus
  • 3-5 years’ hands on experience working with Cisco Catalyst 65xx, 45xx, and 3850 series switches and experience with Cisco Nexus, Cisco 68xx VSS and Arista series switches a plus.
  • Good consultative and communication skills, analytical ability, decisiveness, strong judgment, and the ability to work effectively with clients, IT management, staff and vendors.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to understand the business and technical needs of the client as well as foster customer relationship building and deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Will be required to be on call and periodically work weekends as necessary.
