Telecommunications SCADA Engineer

Education: Four Year technical degree required and/or equivalent experience as listed . Encourage new graduates to apply, will train as required.

Location: This is an office position based out of Gahanna, OH, minimum travel required.

Details: Large multi-state utility has an immediate need for an Engineer, Telecommunications SCADA related, to perform engineering, and procurement of projects, as well as to ensure and coordinate the installation and turn up of the projects with the field operations team. These projects will provide communications for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), metering, and voice dispatch to facilities in utility sites across a multi-state service area as needed.

Or Provides Engineering assistance on Telecommunications SCADA related projects, as well as the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and performance analysis of SCADA networks and systems. Possesses a basic understanding of communications technologies and can perform routine tasks under the initial guidance of more experienced employees.

Candidate will work with planners, project managers, engineers, inspectors, field operations supervisors, field technicians, external providers and interconnected transmission and generation customers.

Engineering Experience with performing analysis to determine the appropriate media, Fiber, wireless radio, Microwave, Lease line, VSAT, cellular, for telecommunications service into utility sites, specifying and procuring telecommunications materials per standard designs, experience working with field personnel to commission telecommunications media into utility sites and a general working knowledge of SCADA systems and RTU equipment, is preferred but not required.

Possess the ability to manage and engineer multiple projects simultaneously.

Possess proficient PC skills, including database input, spreadsheets and email. Possess proficient interpersonal and writing skills.

Travel and expenses will be covered for business related travel.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study; or Associate’s degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience; or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required;

Experience: No additional experience, other than what is listed above, is required.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License is Required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Possess entry to basic level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.

Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle basic assignments. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)

Exhibit fundamental understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes.

Use initiative in looking for opportunities and presenting new ideas and new approaches

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
