This position is responsible for collecting, managing and verifying data within the Meter Division of the Customer Care Department. Responsible for coordinating the completion of daily service orders for the division in support of utility services activities. This position is also responsible for performing various administrative and clerical activities.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Compile data reports related to commercial and residential utility consumption; Prepare, analyze, and verify consumption tracking reports sent to utility billing personnel from the meter division; maintain computer records for meter division;
  • Maintain meter reading equipment; collect and maintain information from meter reading equipment;
  • Load and unload portable data processors used by meter reading staff;
  • Maintain a variety of files and filing systems related to meter reading division;
  • Prepare, review, and analyze meter reading reports as needed;
  • Provide clerical support and assistance to designated division staff;
  • Receive, verify, process, and complete service-work orders daily
  • Communicate with various entities to resolve meter and billing problems;
  • Works cooperatively and effectively with all Customer Care personnel, City staff, and the general public;
  • Monitor information provided by City staff and research questionable information to ensure accuracy;
  • Maintain meter department account database;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent; related technical degree or Associate’s degree preferred; minimum of two (2) years experience in a related field.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of basic math and accounting principles;
  • Knowledge of City codes and ordinances;
  • Ability to interpret and apply City policies to operations.
  • Knowledge of general office practices;
  • Knowledge of general office equipment;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work well with the general public and with a certain degree of independence; Ability to resolve conflicts with customers if needed;
  • Ability to maintain accounting and clerical records and prepare reports from such records; simultaneously perform a variety of clerical functions;
  • Professional public contact and telephone etiquette;
  • Basic business letter writing; knowledge of record keeping; filing alphabetically, numerically, by category and chronologically.

Supervisory Controls: Under the general supervision of the Meter Lead and Meter Manager.

Guidelines: Guidelines include City codes and ordinances, policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions.

Complexity: A variety of duties involved in collecting and entering data related to meter reading and utility consumption. Position is responsible for coordinating the collection of data from point of origin; participate in the processing of data; analyze data before being processed for utility billing.

Scope and Effect: This position processes data to bill for City revenues. This position also coordinates the tasks of others out in the field to maximize efficiency.

Personal Contacts: Contacts are with other department and City employees and the general public when necessary.

Purpose of Contacts: The purpose of the contacts is to give and receive information and resolve problems with customer accounts and metering.

Physical Demands: This position involves standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 25 pounds, carrying, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, and the ability to read written materials.

Work Environment: This job is typically performed at a desk in an area where a moderate amount of noise is present.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility: None.
