Medical Review Nurse

Summary of Position:

Responsible for review, interpretation, and analysis of medical records, attorney reports, and other internal documents associated with medical professional liability cases . Provide information/summaries to claims examiners to support their review and assessment of files.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess critical thinking skills needed to analyze, review and interpret medical records and other reports and subsequently synthesize summary reports for stakeholders within the company. Ability to produce clear, concise, written reports and strong time management skills are key.

Education and/or Experience:

• BSN in Nursing or other Bachelor’s degree along with a Nursing degree required.
• 5 Years recent acute care experience
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
• Ability to produce professional written communications

Certifications and Licenses:

• Current active unrestricted NC Registered Nursing License

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide written and oral reports regarding medical issues/conditions, standards of care issues, allegations of damages and life care planning to carious staff members and stakeholders within company
• Obtain physician expert reviews and disseminates those reports to staff
• Collaborates with claims staff to review and analyze expert reports
• Identify and recognize medical care liability trends and issues
• Use of tracking mechanisms and databases for claims data
• Attend internal claims review committee meetings
• Conduct medical literature research for key standards of care issues
• Perform other duties as necessary.
