Medical Reception / Customer Service

The Family Medicine Residency of Idaho, Inc. is currently recruiting for Medical Reception Staff, specifically for the roles of Check-in and Check-Out.

Position are full-time with normal work hours from 8:00am until 5:15pm Monday through Friday.

Essential Job Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions:

  • Warmly greets patients in person; welcoming patients to FMRI clinics.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying nursing staff / provider of patient’s arrival; reviewing service delivery comparted to schedule; reminding nursing staff / provider of service delays.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties; answering patients’ questions; maintaining the reception area; directs patient to restrooms, water fountain etc.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording and updating patient’s personal and financial information.
  • Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient payments; identifies and notifies appropriate staff members who controls credit extended to patients; files, collects, and expedites third party claims.
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information; complies with HIPAA privacy and security protocols.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Actively works assigned “desktop” such as scheduler desktop, personal desktop etc.
  • Actively managers emails; reading and responding to messages in a timely manner.
  • Explains patient payment options; reminds patient that payment is due at the time of service.
  • Ensures patient paperwork (Established or New Patient) is appropriately completed and signed; scans documents and obtains patient photo if not done already.
  • Scans patient insurance card and patient’s valid identification; verifies address and phone number for correctness, verifies that insurance information is accurate.
  • Receives FMRI Sliding Fee applications; reviews application for completeness. If incomplete provides guidance on the missing documents and requests the return of the application when complete; defers detailed questions to the FMRI business office / SF representative.
  • Monitors waiting room for patients who’ve been waiting greater than 10 minutes; provides update to patient after confirming with clinic staff the situation.
  • Deposits cash bag in to the safe each night / takes deposit to the assigned US Bank.
  • Assists patient in the completion of Release of Medical Records forms.
  • Completes Opportunity Reports regarding patient complaints, injuries or accidents and submits to the Reception Manager.
  • Cleans, sanitizes waiting room chairs at the end of clinic each afternoon.

  • Serves the organization by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Courteously and professionally interacts with FMRI patients and the general public.
  • Completes assigned continued education and mandatory compliance training as assigned.
  • Attends scheduled team and interdepartmental meetings as directed.
  • All other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of previous customer services experience required. Previous Medical Reception experience preferred.
