Medical Investigator (Quality Assurance Specialist)

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

The Board of Medicine is accepting applications for a Medical Investigator (Quality Assurance Specialist).

The Medical Investigator positions investigate complaints against licensees of the Board of Medicine and review medical practices to ensure high quality, ethical services are provided to Idaho consumers.

Responsibilities – This position reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for the following duties:

Conduct investigations of healthcare provider activities to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and accepted standards of care

Determine the appropriate scope of investigation and define the purpose, objective, time frame, and resource requirements in order to complete the investigation in an effective and timely manner

Determine jurisdiction of complaints, request and evaluate information provided by other Idaho agencies, state medical boards, and national organizations, and provide referrals to other agencies if appropriate

Collect and analyze patient healthcare records, medical documents, business documents, and other data as appropriate

Conduct interviews to determine facts, issues and disposition of complaints

Analyze findings and medical records and prepare written investigative summaries for presentation to the Board of Medicine

Work closely with attorneys in preparing for disciplinary hearings including performing research, coordinating witnesses and testifying in hearings Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Experience interpreting and applying laws and regulations and explaining them to others

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience conducting in-depth, fact-finding interviews

Experience compiling, analyzing and organizing information and data

Experience making presentations to a group

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently

Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office Programs
