POSITION SUMMARY: The purpose of this job is to assist physicians in the coordination of patient care.

POSITION DUTIES:
Possess knowledge of the procedures and assist with the preparation and instrumentation: Applies principle of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care during procedures. Maintains specialized supplies and equipment for all procedures and set-ups. Employs appropriate cleaning, sterilization and destruction of instruments. Assists physician with examinations and treatments by assembling necessary supplies and equipment. Aids in the dressing and undressing of patients for medical treatments. Drapes patient in preparation of examination. Remains in exam room throughout exam, if required. Assists and monitors patients during minor surgical procedures within the dictates of practice. Assists in removing and applying bandages, etc. May apply dressings, hot/cold compresses, and ointment as well. Label all basins/containers according to solutions poured into it; include name and dosage. Delivers specimen, cultures and special chemistries to the pathology department. May perform EKGs after deemed competent.

Assists the physician, nursing staff, and patients with various medical care/treatment to facilitate clinic visit: Orients patient and families to the clinical environment. Facilitates family members’ or significant other’s consultation with physician or nurses regarding patient’s medical condition. Pages and/or calls patient from waiting area and escorts patients to examination rooms. Observes patient’s physical appearance, records observations and s supervisor or physician to significant observations. Provides assistance and information as directed to patients and refers appropriate issues or concerns and update patient demographic data. Documents MD exam times on flow sheet. Obtains and records pertinent data such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as assigned. Recognizes emergencies and responds with proper protocol. Facilitates the flow patients in examination areas, and to and from diagnostic testing areas.

Functions in an office support role assisting in all aspects of patient reception; operates computer terminal(s) in order to schedule patient appointments, retrieve lab data, order medical records and update patient demographic data: Greets and assures prompt intake of patients in the clinic. Demonstrates knowledge of use and care of all equipment including printers and computers. Schedules and coordinates new/return and consultative appointments according to the departmental practices. Schedules and coordinates diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures. Obtains charts and clinic charge sheets necessary for patient visits. Maintains required clinic records, logs, collects required statistics. Answers telephone and routes calls promptly and politely; the section reached and medical assistant’s name should be given. Maintains smooth flow of patients in the clinic. Prepares required reports (e.g., incident report) when directed. Able to draw blood/ perform phlebotomy.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (or 1 year experience in a MA role).

Experience:

1 year experience in a Medical Assistant role is required in absence of completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program

Preferred:
1+ years of experience

Experience using an Electronic Medical Record system. Ex. Epic

License/Certification: Basic Life Support-HCP, Required. CPI, Required

Skills: Obtain accurate patient vital signs and perform electrocardiograms. Basic computer and data entry skills, plus analytical skills to determine job priorities, multi-task and work independently are required.
