Mechanical Designer – Assistant Project Manager

In this new position we are looking for a Mechanical Designer with a knack for Project Management. This position might be a great fit for a student or recent graduate looking to start their career with a company experiencing tremendous growth. We can be flexible on schedule and hours for the right candidate.

Key Job Duties:

  • Generate detailed submittal packages and project drawings using PDF software or other resources to clearly communicate intent of the work.
  • Review project plans & specifications and coordinate with project team to confirm complete scope. * Perform requested revisions to submittal packages and draft RFI’s as necessary to support smooth execution of the process.
  • Prepare documentation required and secure all project permits. Coordinate inspections as required on assigned projects. This may require driving to cities that do not allow for online submittal.
  • Perform HVAC calculations for loads, ductwork sizing/layouts and equipment.
  • Alert Project Manager(s) immediately when revisions include schedule or cost impacts to the project.
  • Generate and evaluate value engineering options to benefit the client and MCS.
  • Assist project planning efforts including site review, material procurement, site logistics, and manpower coordination.
  • Assist Project Manager(s) in change order estimation and management as requested.
  • Site surveys, field investigations, condition surveys and feasibility studies for proposed projects.
  • Supports sales efforts through sales assist work, including schematic scope level designs, written system narratives, system selections, and client presentations.
  • Assist with shop drawings, submittals to assure compliance with design intent.
  • Develop and manage design documents including flow diagrams, plans and sections, details, specifications, equipment schedules and calculations.
  • Coordinate with outside engineering firms when necessary.

Summary of Qualifications and Requirements

  • Associates Degree or higher in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in the design and installation of mechanical systems related to HVAC is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote). Strong keyboarding skills required. * Previous Project Management experience preferred. * Must be able to read and understand project drawings and specifications
  • Extremely organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate well. Must possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast paced environment and learn new work processes and tools.
  • Capable of working in a team setting as well as independently
