Marketing Project Manager

The Office of University Communications shares the stories of Wesleyan University —highlighting the achievements of our university and its students, faculty, and alumni, in pictures and in words. Located in historic South College with several satellite locations across the campus, the office develops and executes university-wide and specific strategic marketing and communications efforts, including social media, email, web, video, media relations, print publications, production and design services.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the marketing project manager will be responsible for leading and coordinating teams during the lifecycle of projects. This individual will take marketing projects from original concept through completion and will ensure projects are completed on time. This candidate will manage timelines and priorities, create and track work requests, and ensure transparency through consistent communication with members of the communications team and campus stakeholder as appropriate.

Responsibilities include:
Point person for working with groups across campus on projects and marketing campaigns.

Develop marketing project plans and coordinate project activities between University Communications and campus clients from initiation to execution and retrospective.

Provide day-to-day project management for implementing tactical elements of strategic marketing plans for selected major projects and initiatives for the university.

Lead project meetings and coordinate team briefings, internal reviews of projects and all other meetings needed to complete any given project.

Collaborate with the Director of Marketing to understand and inform marketing strategy in service to the project objectives.

Prepare reports and presentations on project results as well as weekly status reports tracking overall progress of projects and make recommendations to management.

Maintain open and ongoing lines of communication and visibility with all stakeholders in the process ensuring projects meet predefined goals and timelines

Identify opportunities to quantify and document marketing program management impact including but not limited to improving process efficiency, creating cost efficiencies, and campaign optimization impact ( KPI improvements)

Assist in the creation of new marketing initiatives.

Stay up to date on project management

process best practices.

Manage outside vendors as necessary.

Prepare executive summaries and report on research for selected university initiatives.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a related field and at least 5 years’ experience in a marketing project management role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Strong team player with demonstrated experience working in a cross-functional team environment managing cross-platform projects and programs.

Exceptional project management skills with the ability to organize, manage and execute multiple projects/campaigns of varying complexity simultaneously and within deadline.

Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong data analysis, market research and report writing experience.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of project management software/practices, such as Basecamp and/or Microsoft Project

PMP Certification
