Marketing and Communications Manager

SUMMARY

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for consistent brand messaging, innovative communications (written and oral), consistent visual design, electronic media, strategic planning, and working with a broad range of stakeholders. Developing compelling messages to attract guests, encourage membership, and support philanthropic efforts are priorities of the marketing and communication efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Supports the Senior Development Director in devising and implementing the external and internal Marketing and Communications Strategy
  • Updates the Marketing and Communications Plan on an annual basis, including activities for: use of social media and mobile technologies; membership activities; advertising; production of annual reports and prospectuses; departmental marketing (e.g. events, programs, special programs, and philanthropy); and website
  • Works alongside colleagues to deliver the activities set out in the approved annual Marketing and Communications Plan
  • Drafts high quality communications across platforms and media, ensuring appropriate content, tone, brevity, and consistency
  • Acts as a public face for the organization in communicating with constituents, the local and regional community, media, and other interested parties – leads public relations efforts
  • Coordinates media relations and media coverage to strengthen the reputation of the organization
  • Assists in shaping key events which exemplify and communicate brand values; improves audience experience and ensures the communication of key messages
  • Oversees the management of the Marketing and Communications budget; ensures appropriate spending and reports on its effectiveness
  • Trains staff on the appropriate use of brand materials
  • Participates in philanthropic events and other functions as required
  • Assists Philanthropy crafting appropriate messages, acknowledgements and other communications for donors and members.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing-related field
  • Five to seven years’ experience in nonprofit or corporate settings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills , including proofreading, grammar, and copywriting
  • Experience creating and executing successful marketing / promotional campaigns
  • Experience creating graphic design output and working with graphic designers
  • Expertise in all media forms, including evolving social media and web
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines
  • Computer skills, including the use of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to take initiative; excellent time-management, problem-solving skills and work independently with multiple constituencies
  • Capacity to work collaboratively
  • Experience managing budgets and maximizing their effectiveness
  • Must pass background check
  • Must comply with and maintain a smoke-free and drug-free work environment

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated passion for horticulture, the arts, and / or community involvement
  • Familiarity with database applications
  • Working knowledge of design programs a plus
