Market Development Manager

Position Summary:
The Market Development Manager is responsible for the identification and development of strategic growth opportunities in industries and market segments outside of Swagelok’s focus markets. These activities support strategic directions established by the Marketing

Finance and Strategy Manager.

This position requires high business acumen; the ability to maintain a wide-range of knowledge on current industry conditions; identifies and develops strategic relationships with business partners or potential customers; provides vision, guidance and direction

to promote and capitalize on new growth opportunities; collaborates with associates from many levels and functional groups to organize and lead teams to implement market development initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to identify new opportunities beyond our target markets.
  • Work closely with distributors, lead-customers, industry groups and other external organizations.
  • Survey potential markets to identify the best opportunities to support Swagelok’s growth objectives.
  • Build a fundamental understanding on how key industries work and formulate Swagelok’s best approach to win business associated with these new opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry and customer personnel to promote and enable our market development process.
  • Evaluate the strategic and financial potential of new business opportunities in a way that all identified opportunities can be objectively evaluated to determine the best opportunity to be developed.
  • Create business cases for possible market entry or expansion based on direction from management.
  • Develop the business plans to address requirements for success in the new markets.
  • Lead efforts to analyzing market segment value chains and industry structures, identify trends and determine how products and systems are specified. Presents these needs and voice of the customer to the organization.
  • Ensure that Swagelok’s product basket for new industries and market segments and is competitive and meets the needs of targeted end-user requirements.
  • Assure that Swagelok’s distributors have the most up-to-date and relevant information necessary to successfully sell into this new industry or market segment.
  • Lead efforts to develop sales and marketing plans necessary for distributors to identify specific accounts and sites which should be actively pursued for new business.
  • Lead efforts to create and provide training for distributors and sales personnel on those applications within the industry which are targets for our Products & Services.

Education: BS/BA in Engineering, Marketing, or related field. MBA recommended.

Experience: 7+ years of experience in Marketing or related field with substantial responsibilities in commercialization and/or customer engagement.

Some formal marketing experience required.

Previous experience in the military or defense contracting a plus.

Previous experience from a Swagelok distributorship a plus.

Working knowledge of Swagelok’s current target markets competitors, customers, suppliers, key personnel, products, applications and technology is a plus.

Skills: Strong computer and MS-Office software skills; Excellent oral and written communications, leadership and negotiation skills; Proven ability to research, assimilate and synthesize market related information from a variety of sources into a cohesive business

plan / proposal; Proven ability to interact with a wide variety of people including senior management and quickly build rapport; Proven ability to present and speak persuasively in public.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
