Marine Aide

This position is seasonal from May – September

Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Marine Deputy, this position is responsible in assisting in the Marine Deputy in enforcing the law, accident reporting, boating safety education, and assisting boaters in distress in Crook County’s lakes and waterways. This position may perform any task to which they have been trained and are qualified. The work is performed in a combined work environment but primarily in a vehicle and secondarily in an office. The work requires a high level of public contact under stressful situations in the community. This position is responsible for duties that do not require certification by the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). This individual must have the ability to read instructions, manuals and road signs, hear alarms, voice conversation, and grip and hold a person to maintain control. They must also have the ability to swim and or tread water

Minimum Qualifications

U.S. Citizen

Minimum of 16 years of age

Have a high school diploma / GED equivalent – or current student status

Valid Oregon driver’s license by time of appointment

No criminal record (no felony conviction or convictions involving perjury or domestic violence, or have extensive traffic violations

Must be able to obtain CJIS Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a certified swim test

Must be able to satisfactorily pass a detailed background investigation, physical, physiological and physical ability exams ( ORPAT )

Preferred Education and Experience

Some college education

Additional Eligibility Requirements

Able to complete a thorough employment and/or criminal history check.

Final candidates will be required to provide official proof of college degree and certified transcripts (not required for all positions).

Safety Sensitive Requirements

This position is considered to be a safety sensitive position and candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.

Salary: $15.00 – $18.00 / hour DOE
