Manufacturing Engineer

The
Manufacturing Engineer
is responsible to develop, implement and maintain methods, operation routings and processes in the manufacture, fabrication, assembly and testing of parts, sub and final assemblies. This position also interfaces with and serves as intermediary between the engineering design, quality inspection and production implementation functions with respect to new product introductions. Applicant must have the ability to continually improve the quality, manufacturability and value of current products utilizing Standard Work, Flow, 5S, Kanban, SMED, and other Lean tools, estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines. Will maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations ensuring robust processes are in place.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manufacturing

  • Evaluation of existing fixture designs for machining, assembly and test operations.
  • Document and maintain processes for manufacturing operations such as Bill of Material (BOM), tooling, fixturing, gaging, etc.
  • Develop and/or revise production part drawings and assemblies to support sustaining efforts.
  • Assist in the preparation and processing of Engineering Change Requests & Notices.
  • Supports the quality department with root cause countermeasure analysis of customer returns or complaints
  • Supports the area managers with disposition and root cause countermeasure of assembly and machining scrap
  • Develop manufacturing strategies for new products by performing detailed feasibility, project timing and cost estimate studies.
  • Leads process development and integration efforts for introduction of new and redesigned products. Works with Engineering team develop production ready process.
  • Support the Engineering team in management of CNC programs, design of required tooling/ work holding fixturing and establishment of time studies, standards and routings for production requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead kaizen events and continuous improvement efforts throughout the factory and corresponding business units
  • Drive Root Cause Countermeasure Problem Solving through Daily Management and Lean Efforts
  • Responsible for effective 5S management on shop floor
  • Create and maintain standard work instructions and quality plans.
  • Support sourcing activities including identification of potential suppliers and technical evaluations.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment and process problems.
  • Capital equipment investigation, evaluation and recommendations in accordance with business plans creation of Capital Approval Requests including detailed justifications.
  • Analyze existing production equipment and performance to provide recommendations for enhanced capacity, efficiency, customer service, quality and safety.
  • Promote, implement and oversee production cost reduction ideas using lean methodologies focused on improvement of processes. Lead process related projects from inception to full implementation.
  • Implement set-up reduction techniques.
  • Perform benchmarking studies as required.
  • Drive the identification and adoption of “best practices” from other IDEX business units.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree

6 months to 2 years

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Science in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial)
  • 3 plus years of Manufacturing Experience

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Experience developing, implementing and documenting the use of machining and assembly work holding fixtures with a focus on mistake-proofing processes a plus
  • CAD/Pro-E experience
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Practical CNC milling, grinding & lathe experience with metals
  • Experience within an ISO certified environment
  • Basic knowledge of PC and PLC controls
  • Casting experience a plus
  • QA experience (processes & systems)
  • Understanding of a variety of lean and Six Sigma tools (value stream mapping, standard work, 5S, flow, pull, etc.)
  • Proven project management experience Overall natural leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities
  • Strong ability using metrics to drive results
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems
  • Experience determining root cause(s) of machining or assembly issues
  • Knowledgeable in statistical analysis of production activities
  • Strong influence skills without direct authority
