Manager of CORE Business Systems

How this role will make an impact:

This is an exciting and dynamic application manager position responsible for our HR, Finance, Real-estate and collaboration systems that support PetSmart’s backbone. This position manages the team of internal associates and external consultants who maintain, develop, configure, and support existing applications. Your goals and responsibilities will include:

  • Hire and manage the performance and professional development of a staff with appropriate expertise to provide application support, development and maintenance for a broad range of applications that support PetSmart’s CORE applications. (SAP/ HR, Finance, Real-estate, backend systems)
  • Ensure that team is in place to triage and resolve customer issues or system issues that prevent normal operations
  • Manage and prioritize small enhancement development, defect development and system configuration across shared application platforms
  • Ensure communication with Infrastructure, BI, Security and Application teams to ensure solid delivery of services
  • Support the deployment, data loads and changes to support compliance and regular operational activity
  • Identify recurring problems and opportunities to improve system performance and availability and work with the appropriate IT teams to prioritize resolution
  • Ensure that application platforms are maintained at an appropriate level and are patchedupdated (servicesupport packs) as required
  • Ensure that end users are educated and proper training materials exist
  • Record and improve KPIs that measure efficiency and productivity of the organization
  • Apply appropriate SDLC methodologies to design and build and enhance quality solutions
  • Ensure corporate service level agreements are achieved
  • Ensure that systems are documented and teams are trained on system operations and troubleshooting
  • Provide appropriate level of support coverage and responsiveness
  • Ensure that plans are in place for operational and disaster recovery and re these plans are regularly tested
  • Ensure that system capacity is monitored and adjusted to ensure sufficient system resources.


What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree – Math, Science or Computer Science preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of application development, integration or support experience in multiple applications
  • and/or related experience or training
  • 3-5 years managing development or operations
  • Management of SAP application teams supporting FI and HCM, and BASIS
  • Retail systems experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others
  • Proven skills at problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated capability to organize and plan work
  • Ability to achieve results through effective guidance of others
  • Ability to lead systems configuration and/or development efforts
  • Able to understand business concepts and translate business needs into high level system requirements and plans
  • Strong communications skills. Able to present highly complex ideas in a clear manner.
