Manager, Creative Services

The responsibilities of the Manager, Creative Services include taking creative projects from concept to completion, translating Deschutes Brewery marketing objectives into creative strategies and into the production of packaging, advertising, events and marketing collateral. This position is responsible for finding the best ways to creatively represent Deschutes Brewery across all relevant media.

Job Responsibilities

Establish the overall creative strategy, conceptual vision and standards for the brand, in collaboration with creative team, brand marketing managers and marketing director, across multiple channels including online, print, in-store, at our pubs and tasting room, and internally.

Partner with internal creative resources, marketing and sales teams, as well as external creative agencies, illustrators, videographers, photographers, printers, developers, and media partners, to ensure creative projects meet the needs of the business and the vision and standards for the brand.

Ensure consistency of brand look, voice and tone across all brewery consumer touchpoints, including on-site, facilities, pubs and pub collateral, digital, retail, and events.

Design and execute original work for a variety of marketing initiatives including packaging, advertising, sales collateral, presentations, social/digital content, event signage, merchandise and promotions.

Work with internal teams to generate ideas, recommend solutions and mock up concepts to grow the Deschutes Brewery brand. Lead team brainstorming and conceptualization processes.

Work collaboratively and in partnership with the Marketing Project Manager to ensure every project is delivered on strategy and on schedule.

Lead creative efforts in support of strategic, long-term brand planning and execution of annual marketing imperatives with equal emphasis on the messaging as well as visual aspects.

Stay current on new technologies, industry trends, consumer insights and competitive landscape to inform and drive creative vision and strategy.

Approach creative opportunities with multiple solutions; respond positively to constructive creative critique by adapting concepts based on feedback and working toward complete and approved assets.

Provide both internal and external partners with the highest level of customer and design services, and communicate effectively with a positive, professional attitude.

Look for new ideas and approaches to problem solving and continuous improvement to our processes.

Manage multiple demands and responsibilities by scheduling and prioritizing workload for self and team.

Manage a team of 1-2 designers. Coach and mentor staff, create opportunities for creative team development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management and recognition.

Skills & Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, or other related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a designer for consumer brands and campaigns in an agency or in-house creative department . Print and web graphic design, illustration, computer graphic software, and desktop publishing/document layout experience.

Strong conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinker . Creative problem solver.

Deep understanding of how design supports the marketing function in a business.

Ability to operate at any level to achieve business results, from strategic visioning to laying out event collateral and everything in between.

Experienced at leading, partnering and managing creative agencies and budgets. Ability to effectively delegate and traffic work through internal and external creative resources.

Thrive in a deadline-driven environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities, set clear expectations for deliverables and meet project deadlines.

Take initiative and ownership in leading projects . Highly self-motivated, work quickly and efficiently.

Flexible and open to feedback. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

Proven ability to adapt personal style to the brand and each assignment. While brand standards will be established, must be able to adapt the standards to each opportunity while maintaining overall consistency.

Strong collaborations skills, can demonstrate integrity, maturity and a constructive approach to challenges; team player.

Display leadership and ability to inspire teams by providing and promoting excellent quality of work, creative exploration and innovation.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.

Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust resulting in effective working relationships across the company.

Keen attention to detail in planning, organization and execution of tasks (including proofreading and accuracy checks), while still seeing the big picture and understanding how all of the pieces fit together and affect one another.

Copywriting experience preferred, but not required.

Preference for work on premium/outdoor/CPG brands .

Efficient in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word .

Moderate level of craft beer product knowledge.
