Management Fellowship

The City of Elgin Management Fellowship is a two-year program designed for highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing a career in public service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

The Management Fellowship provides talented professionals the opportunity to learn about city operations, enhance management skills, play a key role in a myriad of high-priority city projects, and contribute to the organization at the executive leadership level.

The Management Fellow will work in the City Manager’s Office. In addition to gaining valuable hands-on experience through challenging work projects, the program offers fellows the opportunity to receive coaching and mentoring from the city manager and other members of the city’s senior leadership team.

  • Attend city council meetings, and at times, other evening meetings related to city business

Education:

Master’s Degree is preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This two-year, full-time opportunity was created to attract the next generation of leaders to careers in local government. Fellows will receive a salary, health insurance and be eligible for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Successful fellows have the opportunity to be recruited by city departments to fill available city jobs, although a city job after the Fellowship is not guaranteed.

Candidate Evaluation Process:
This full-time, paid opportunity was created to attract the next generation of leaders to careers in local government. Masters degree preferred but not required. The candidate evaluation process includes the application, interview(s), and background check as is detailed below.
Application

Interview

This process may include a phone or video interview to review eligible candidates’ applications and materials. Final interviews will be conducted in person, on-site at the city of Elgin.

Background Check

Chosen candidate must submit to driving record review, pass a drug test and background screening.
