Mail Acceptance Clerk – 1st shift

Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday-Friday with a Mandatory Weekend ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Collect and process mail going out USPS. Collect and process mail going to presort vendors. Prepare online or manual manifests/bill of ladings for vendors Operate Connect Plus meters to meter and document outbound mail. Produce mail statements for USPS through Windowbook. Backup Mail Service Assistant (enter postage from meters into PS, pay invoices, request postage, make adjustment to postage statement when necessary.) Work with Postal clerks to clear mail. Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as work schedules require. In peak periods additional overtime is required. Workload may dictate a short term change of shift. Comply with general work rules — responsible for quality of own work, housekeeping of own work area, and to work safely.

Physical Requirements:

Work requires incumbent to be mobile and in a standing / walking position with ability to lift up to 70 lbs regularly. Uses hands to handle, finger, or feel objects and to perform keyboarding. Also uses hands and arms to reach and grab objects. Sometimes it is necessary to crouch or kneel. Successful performance requires good vision abilities including close vision. Ability to work from verbal and written instructions – all in English.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Generally high school vocational orientated background or related education is preferred, and typically, 3 months to 3 years of fast pace, high volume production experience or similar background or equivalent combination of education and experience is needed to successfully perform job requirements. Time classified in the specific job classifications does not automatically qualify an individual.

Functional Area Skills/Knowledge:

Requires very good working knowledge and experience with PC’s – keyboarding, data entry, and information lookup is necessary. Ability to convert pounds to ounces on PC based program to ascertain piece counts on outbound mail. Accuracy of count and transfer to documentation is critical. Must quickly learn (within 2 weeks) to utilize the appropriate modules of the computerized business system and to update most required work data information. Requires ability to stay under control while working with continually changing multi task work assignments in a deadline work environment. Must have basic machining and/or assembly skills. Must have the ability to operate material handling equipment – forklifts and power pallet jacks. Equipment certification preferred, but not required.
