Linux Systems Administrator

The Linux Systems Administrator will support enterprise physical and virtual environments on AWS EC2, HP and Cisco UCS platforms. The Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for developing and executing deployment packages for deploying, automating, monitoring and supporting Linux-based servers and applications in a cloud hosted environment. The Administrator will act as a liaison in meetings with vendors and development groups, bringing an operational perspective to the SDLC and taking away operations deliverables as needed. The Administrator will interact with internal customers supporting external customers, corporate and vendor IT staffs to provide world-class production support. In addition, this position will provide System Monitoring to detect performance issues in managed physical and virtual machines.

**Principal Responsibilities: **

  • Monitors and recommends performance improvements to ensure high availability of infrastructure.
  • Serves as an escalation point for technical issues at the team level.
  • Participates in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies.
  • Works with Linux, Storage & Virtualization Engineers to configure, and troubleshoot application servers and the software running on them.
  • Participates in the deployment, maintenance, and upgrade process of Applications developed by different development groups and teams.
  • Handles ongoing maintenance e.g., service pack installations, hot fixes, software upgrades, etc.
  • Documents technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Participates in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.
  • Follows policies and procedures for change and incident management.
  • Stays current on industry trends and new technologies and recommends future initiatives.
  • Oversees administration functions such as server build outs, monitoring, patch/security updates, antivirus, backups, restores, asset management, 24X7 support, pager duty, etc.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

**Qualifications: **

  • High school diploma or GED. (Required.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing and supporting Linux distributions such as Redhat, Ubuntu and/or CentOS in a mid-to-large scale Enterprise Environment data center environment. (Required.)
  • Knowledge of server/storage hardware and protocols (NFS, iSCSI). (Required.)
  • Demonstrated scripting and automation skills (Perl, Bash, PHP, Puppet, Chef, Salt, etc.). (Required.)
  • Basic understanding of security concepts. (i.e. Active Directory, NTFS permissions, security auditing, security user contexts, application layer vulnerabilities, etc.) (Required.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Understanding of cloud storage, network, and hardware technologies.
  • Experience supporting Java based applications and server automation.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, nginx, etc.
  • Experience with KVM, Kickstart and/or Redhat package manager.
