Senior Systems Engineer, with expertise in Storage and Backup products that support our Linux / Windows / Hypervisor operating systems. Demonstrated ability to design, collaborate and deliver robust enterprise IT services from need to production and continued operational support. Sought by others for advice and solutions, making good decisions using rigorous logic and analytical skills to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. Strong knowledge and experience with Linux (RHEL), Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 technologies, Secure Transport applications, NetApp storage and Hypervisors (Hyper-V and VMware).Strong communication skills both verbal and written skills to develop technical documentation, presentations, and technical reports. Ability to listen to people and accurately restate the opinions of others, understand customer’s needs and articulate technologies to business stakeholders. Advanced scripting skills. Manage the full systems lifecycle (design, implementation, maintenance) of the system products. Evaluate new systems software, hardware and cloud options and make recommendations to management. Analyze and evaluate industry trends and new developments to integrate best technologies into systems. Document all engineering and design work. Lead the development and adaption of best practices and processes to ensure efficient and mature operational excellence improving the quality of assigned technical area. Analyze approaches for impact/risk and cost/benefit. Develops current and future state assessments and designs that address business requirements and best practices. Propose changes that would streamline and optimize business processes. Provide guidance on the development of metrics, KPI, and reports needed to measure the health and status of the services to the County. Produce relevant reports to monitor, report, and evaluate these statistics. As the Subject Matter Expert and technical reference for Incidents and Problems, ensure changes follow the Change Management process, mentor and provide technical leadership to other engineers, specialists and IT personnel involved in the deployment and support of the service. Level 2 support, design, engineering, implementation, and administering of the systems. In-depth troubleshooting skills with the ability to train and increase skill and knowledge of co-workers. Creation of standards and best practices for the team. Design and implement new systems and enhancements, work with Architects to create system designs / changes, and review designs created by other systems engineers and Architects. Ensuring enterprise-level services are available for customers and meet the business needs. As the Senior System Engineer for the County, you will have ownership over technical and operational aspects of Enterprise software products used in critical business functions. Responsible for creation of standard operating procedures, processes, documentation, maintaining services, writing scripts to automate processes, participate in planning and implementation of project tasks, plus investigation and resolution to tactical technical issues. Work with the various support personnel to improve services and design solutions to meet business requirements. Drive automation and best practices in the operations of these systems to improve consistency and customer experience.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ Years of technology experience providing advance engineering support for enterprise-level configuration management.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Senior Systems Engineer.
  • Experience with Networker version 8.x and 9.x with both Windows and Linux clients.
  • Experience with AFTDs and a tapeless environment is desired.
  • Experience with ONTAP Version 8.x and 9.x managing multi-node clusters serving FCoE, iSCSI, NFS & CIFS protocols.
  • Experience with Veeam version 8.x and 9.x in a Hyper-V and VMware environment.
  • Experience with NetApp On Command suite of management tools (Unified Manager, Performance Manager). Data protection technologies involving Snap Manager for Oracle (SMO), Virtual Storage Console (VSC), SnapMirror.
  • Experience with Cisco UCS and Flex Pod environments.
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008/2012

Certifications Required:

  • NetApp Certified Data Administrator ONTAP (NCDA)
  • Certifications related to virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware)
  • ITIL Foundation certification
  • Project Management experience
  • MCSE, CCNA, or similar
  • NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer—SAN Specialist (NCIE-SAN)
  • NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer—Data Protection Specialist (NCIE Data Protection)
  • Networker 8.x 9.x related courses and certifications
