Linux System Administrator

We are looking for a Linux administrator who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring our Linux infrastructure. You will be responsible for the stability, performance and usability of our LAMP platform as well as collaborate with team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. Our ideal candidate would have demonstrable proficiency in Linux administration, scripting and would have a strong foundation in VMWare Enterprise products. An understanding of effective Service Desk operations based upon the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains LAMP server platform environments.
  • Improves processes and procedures using automation and scripting tools.
  • Manage and support monitoring, scripting, and compliance applications.
  • Acts as liaison with manufacturers and vendors of hardware with regard to problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Creates, maintains and reviews monitoring solution to ensure system service.
  • Setup and maintain backup services.
  • Reviews, recommends, and implements required system upgrades and patches. Ensures that daily, weekly, and monthly statistics, status reports, and graphical reporting aids are completed and continually modified to meet the needs of the department.

  • Interfaces with users of Information Technology, employing a high degree of tact and diplomacy to promote a positive image of the department. Resolves problem situations in a professional manner. Accurately communicates pertinent information to create a work environment that lends itself to the best interests of departmental personnel and customer service.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from four-year College or university; 5 plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Relevant Certifications:

  • CompTIA Linux+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Microsoft MCSE
  • Industry SAN certificates from any vendor
  • VMWare VCP
  • Help Desk Institute
  • A+ or similar certifications are preferred

Other Qualifications:

Experience with: CentOS, Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle), Java, PHP, Apache, and Nagios desired. At least 5 years of previous experience required; previous experience in Managed Care and Medicare preferred.
